OK - just got my two 3DXL units today!!! And since I don't see an owner's thread yet, I figured now is as good a time as ANY!
I will post some pictures tonight!
This box can be used in a couple of different ways - in my case I'll be using TWO of them, to drive TWO separate 1080p projectors, using polarised filters and passive 3D glasses.
Other people will be using a single box to feed an existing 3D projector, such as DLP-Link, with other standards like 3D bluray.
You da man rdjam. Something tells me that you will be very busy the next few days, weeks. Look forward to hearing you and your cohorts comments. Been waiting a long time.
I am sure someone else with a pilot 3DXL will set up a single 120 hz page flipping projector and report on stability, sync issues, and any anomolies connected to 3D BD and broadcast 3D from Directv and cable systems.
OK - so the two units arrived yesterday (Thursday) in my office. Unfortunately I'm not in that office, due to an industry event, so I can't rip these puppies out of their boxes myself and get busy.
But I want to post some shots - so I asked and assistant to take both of them out of their boxes and lay then out together with all the stuff in the boxes, and get some nice shots so that I could share them with you here.
She's a sweet girl, but sometimes doesn't take direction literally enough - executionally challenged one might say.
Nonetheless, here are a few pics - they look a bit like taken from a galloping horse, but hopefully will do for now until I get the units in my grubby mitts
I was sure I had seen a listing on Amazon, but now I'm looking at both amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk and they have the message "click to be notified when this item is available".
So I'm feeling pretty special - it looks like Optoma was very gracious to release these two units to me for the Ultimate 3D thread, as it's a pretty exciting (at least to me! lol) implementation of the boxes, using the two JVC RS40 units.
If I *had* to speculate, I believe that they are right at the cusp of releasing en masse, but *perhaps* are waiting for one last firmware update, to enable 24p output for 3D Bluray left/right split streams. It may just be that they really want to make sure they work just right for all different user configs, so there is less confusion on release.
I was given the option of holding off on these two units, or upgrading them on-site when the update becomes available. Naturally, I chose the latter!
So fear not, I think they are about to hit the streets. There is at least one more poster here who I have spoken to that has received a 3DXL. He will be setting up and testing a DLP-Link projector with the box.
So between myself and him, you should have some good info by the time the boxes are shipping. I'm looking forward to getting these into my theater room with the RS40s!
rdjam, they took the listing down when it was originally put up with a 499 price...there were a couple members here who had people fill out reviews of the product with 1 star due to the 100 difference between Europe and ourselves. I THINK that the reason they took it down was so they could maybe adjust the price to 399 and take out the glasses, time will tell there though! I hope to have my setup running by next week, its taking a little extra time on the shipping of it, but hopefully by the middle to end of next week mine will be delivered at my house for the review.
"A cost-effective home entertainment solution, ViewSonic's VP3D1 3D video processor box enables the viewing of Blu-ray and other Full HD 1080p 2D and 3D content on any 3D Ready DLP® projector with an HDMI connection(1). From HD movies to games, consumers can enjoy Full HD content on their current compatible projector. The HDMI 1.4A output and dual HDMI input connectors ensure connectivity with Blu-ray 3D players, PlayStation® 3D games and others. With the VP3D1, a 1080p video signal is automatically converted for a seamless 3D projection experience. The VP3D1 will be available in early February for an ESP of $299."
Interesting.. seems to have very similar functional design to the Optoma 3DXL (ie 2 in and 1 out), but no mention of dual-projector mode or 1080p. Website only mentions 720p. And the "Estimated Street Price" of $299 could mean a similar list price to the 3DXL also.
I'll keep an eye on it, but my confidence is very high with the Optoma box, having talked this application through with them.
It's looking like this is going to be a hot little product space down the road.
The Right and Left channels on 3D Bluray are "multiplexed" into one data stream. The 3DXL boxes can "de-mux" them into separate streams for the left or right channel and send to an inidividual projector, such as in the Ultimate 3D project.
Lee was pointing out that it is not currently listed as a feature for the Viewsonic.
With the Viewsonic adapter it is also unclear to me at this time if the unit will de-code SbS and/or T&B 3D transmission formats from satellite and cable 3D channels. Does anyone know at this point?
