"Because too much is never enough.."
Film Synopsis:
Because too much is never enough! The boys of jackass are at it again with an all-new UNRATED movie loaded with even more outrageous stunts, stupids, and never-before-seen pranks and mayhem, including Steve-O's up-close and personal encounter with a snapping turtle, Chris Pontius and his incredible wood pecker, and an electrifying game of limbo with the whole gang. Plus, get an inside view of paranoid life on the jackass set and the successful behind-the-scenes prank that was finally pulled on Johnny Knoxville.
My Take:
Jackass 3.5 is predominantly compiled from much of the footage that went unused during the filming of Jackass 3D. It features extended scenes, reworked stunts and much of the same nonsensically dangerous antics that have made the Jackass Series popular with its fans. Let's be up front, this is the kind of stuff that you either find funny or insipidly repulsive. Like I said when I reviewed Jackass 3, as a film enthusiast I can't help but feel that I have a responsibility to discount this type of movie making for the asinine banality that it is. The problem is that doing so would make me a hypocrite because I find humor in some of the zany lengths these boobs will go to for a laugh. Its way over the top in its incessant use of vomit inducing scenarios, gratuitous male form nudity and masochistic torture but the visceral reaction to many of the stunts and situations is what tends to be the most fun to watch. As with Jackass 3 I found that there were stunts featured in the film that elicited no reaction while others left me covering my eyes, protecting my private parts or openly voicing disgust. I didn't feel that this film rose to the same egregiously over the top levels of depraved indifference as the one before it. The cast is of course game to try anything and their comradery and familiarity with one another make these films a bit more entertaining. As I did with Jackass 3 I will offer this parting disclaimer for those who have gotten this far into my review and haven't turned back. Jackass 3.5 (and its predecessors) isn't for everyone. If you're put off by outrageous, irresponsible, and nonsensical tomfoolery or have a weak constitution, this is a waste of your time. If you're up for stomach turning pranks, ridiculously brash stunts and crass humor then you might just find Jackass 3.5 to be a guilty pleasure that makes for spirited entertainment when the guys are over for a few beers. It comes to Blu-ray as a Best Buy Exclusive that will be available on June 14, 2011.
Parental Guide:
This film contains graphic male nudity, extremely crude and dangerous stunts throughout and language.

Jackass 3.5 comes to Blu-ray Disc from Paramount featuring 1080p AVC encoded video that has an average bitrate of 31 Mbps and lossless DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound that has an average bitrate of 3.5 Mbps.
Looking at this audio/video presentation and comparing my notes from my review of Jackass 3 I found them to be very similar. Here are my comments from that review which also apply here:
Captured in a sort of documentary style this film was shot using high definition hand held (of mixed resolutions) and concealed CCD type video cameras with the perspective often switching back and forth. The shots captured with the better high definition cameras were lucid, with crisp definition, rich natural color, stable contrast and punchy blacks. The lower resolution camera footage was noticeably softer and occasionally exhibited minor artifacts but was certainly clear enough to get the job done. I had no real complaints with the video quality and on a whole thought that this presentation looked quite good.
The high resolution DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack had excellent dynamic range and refining detail. Dialogue was articulately reproduced through the center channel and maintained a position of prominence within the front soundstage. This wasn't an aggressive surround mix but when applied the surround channels generated an immersive atmosphere that enriched the film's intentionally fetid elements. Front and rear channel imaging was excellent as off camera sounds and spatial cues mated perfectly with the events transpiring onscreen. Although there wasn't continued use of low frequency effects/deep bass, when present it resonated with punctuated authority that energized the room. I must to admit to finding this lossless audio presentation to be much better than anticipated.
Bonus Features:
Final Thoughts:
Definitely not for everyone I find the Jackass Series to be undeniably entertaining. I didn't find Jackass 3.5 to be quite as funny as Jackass 3 but there are some truly priceless moments amidst the dreck. It makes its way onto Blu-ray Disc from Paramount Home Entertainment via of a Best Buy Exclusive that features solid high definition audio/video quality along with a fan friendly offering of bonus supplements that includes a worthwhile series retrospective that contains never before seen footage. If you're a fan this is a worthy addition to your collection. If you're not sure toss it in your rental queue and take it for a spin.
