Cruising the AVS Forum while intoxicated...

Ok....I picked the HD Programming forum for this due to those of us who consume alcohol are more than likely watch HD programming while drinking. I actually try to both at the same time (only on occasion in moderation). KenH, Alan and David, please do not delete this thread as AVS has been such a great outlet for being in touch with its members. Yes, I am PWI (posting while intoxicated). I am enjoying a 1999 merlot cab blend right now.

Between cruising the AVS and watching HD, I feel the HD experience with a nice wine can go hand in hand. The two are to be savored in a multi-sensory experience. How many of us do this???? Please share your experiences....

You mean some of you cruise AVS without being on morphine? Wow, I hadn't realized that. This leaves me at a loss to explain some of what I read here :-)

I tried AVS last night while on a nice percodan & flexoril high (screwed up back) after trying to read a few posts I realized that I wasn't able to focus well enough to read and gave up. The HDTV didn't look so good either so I just stumbled to the bedroom and passed out.

I can't imagine why the warning labels say to not drive or operate machinery whaile taking these medications...

substances and HD

remember when tom snyder still did the late late show after letterman? he would encourage all his viewers to drink while they watched, saying, "fire up a colortini" ... perhaps if he were still on in the digital tv age his phrase of choice would be "fire up an hdtini".

drinking wine while watching hd? no way! to quote blue velvet: "f*** that s***... PABST BLUE RIBBON!"

it's an economical thing. i'm in college

I had no idea about Snyder. That is a good idea. I really like the "fire up an HDtini".

Any chance we can get a smile to add to the posts to indicate if we have been boozen?? There is one open space in the "smilies" box. Anyone care to offer up their version of a PWI smiley?

Kipp: I like that "boozin' smiley" idea.

I've found that the first bottle of Cab enhances your creativity and enjoyment of online posting. The second bottle makes it tougher to read think and type, but you enjoy it just the same. And the third bottle has you searching the forums the following morning in order to edit or delete the really dumb stuff you posted earlier in the morning...

Man (to WC): "You're drunk!"
WC: "Yeah, and you're crazy. And I'll be sober tomorrow and you'll be crazy for the rest of your life."
From the WC Fields movie, It's a Gift!

Not sure what movie, but I thought it went more like this:

"Society" woman (to WC): "Sir, you are drunk!"
WC: "And madam, you are ugly! Tomorrow I'll be sober but you'll still be ugly!"

yes, in the Winston Churchill Documentary on HBO? they did his famous quote to the "Society" woman commenting on his intoxication. Classic line... "I may be drunk, but madam, you are ugly... Tomorrow I'll be sober and you'll still be ugly."

I also thought that it was Ugly and not Crazy, but after checking some web sites which listed the quote, they both said what I posted and not the Ugly quote. Maybe it is just another case of Revisionist History and Political Correctness?

I used the cruise the forum while plastered, but stopped after I heaved into the keyboard. Now I resort to a couple of bongers and I'm all set.

Technical advice for "Cruising the AVS Forum while intoxicated" ...

Get a universal learning remote with macros, and use discrete codes if at all possible, so you can easily navigate a potentially difficult A/V system.

Nothing is worse than hitting the wrong button and "losing HDTV while intoxicated." If this happens, do NOT under any circumstances, attempt to "rewire HDTV while intoxicated!"

... and it should go without saying that one should NEVER attempt to re-aim their roof mounted (or in my case pine-tree mounted) eliptical dish while intoxicated especially in a rainstorm (the hint should be that the rain is the likely problem).

P.S. - Do not expect TiVo functions to suddenly start working with Satellite HDTV while intoxicated!

And, never, never, never get paranoid and reset all your passwords while intoxicated. You will never remember them the next day...

That is a scary thought. I had a root canal today and I am on Vicodone for a while. The only problem I am having is I keep mistyping. All of the colors look really bright!

when guest are over, I usually make a point of offering a beverage before firing up the system. Maybe the dlp projector has something to do with it, but I think that a drink or two really does help pq.

wonder if it would possible to successfully develop a standard “user-calibration” procedure.

heh... I now make it a point never to post on a forum or send email while intoxicated. Seems 99 times out of 100, I regret some or all of which wrote as it will lack tact or diplomacy.

WC Fields was never sober the next morning. He stayed drunk to avoid a really bad hangover.

Note Thanx for the mid-summer's comic relief!

Great thread, Kipp and company!
I've been on planes a lot lately, sipping Johnnie Walker Black in the business sections and reading Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing series again - great reads and a wild blast from the past! This thread reminds me of HST! I too have noted my need for post-posting editing sessions after enthusiastic keyboard dancing, enlivened by either the grappa (evening) or too much java!
