when i browse through 7.0.6\media i just see a bunch of s0-s9 with 160 size but when i try to go into them they go no where. i keep getting the same directory listing.

are you sure 7.0.6 is the right partition?

while in ftp, changing directory to the following will open the other partitions:

7.0.5/ is the default active boot partition, contains dbs and dvd cover art
7.0.6/ has the mp3 media files
7.0.7/ clean image of 7.0.6
7.0.8/ appears to be the same as 7.0.7
7.0.9/ CDR
7.0.2/ has the radio stations and tar files contains clean copies of the dbs
7.0.1/ active partition for brand new units, 7.0.5 takes over after settings are configured

If you look though 7.0.6/Media, you will find that alot of MP3s are 0 bytes in length. I found that was the cause to why some didn't want to play, yet listed.

It is correct. I backed up my MP3s from there today. There are two levels of directories just like in numerous other places on the Entre's harddisk. The difference is that these are 0m - 9m where others were s0 - s9.

0m has directories 0m thru 9m in it. Within those directories are just a hand full of MP3s. I've seen a max of 17 in mine. There are no directories down further.

i.e. a partial list of my harddisk backup structure that parallels the Entre.

Okay . . . do I assume that the 7.06 thing is the way to get rid of the MP3 ghosts?

If so, how do you get to 7.06//Media from CuteFTP? I could not simply rewrite over the 7.05 dropdown box; I right-clicked and it gave me the choice of revising the directory and also creating a new directory. I tried both, but there was no 7.06//Media to be created or revised.

Once you tell me how to get there, does this mean you delete those MP3 files in Entre that have 0MB in length? Is that the idea?

True enough. I was able to do this via the "DOS" FTP application. Under CuteFTP when just entering 7.0.6/ it appeared to strip the / off then fail. Also if you enter 7.0.6// it would strip the // then fail. Entering 7.0.6//Media it would not strip anything and would work. Looks like a CuteFTP thing.

this is driving me nuts. I did mean 0m and so forth. But they all say 160 and i don't see any mp3s in any of them.

what extension do your mp3s end in?

Nick, you need to enter 7.0.6/Media in CuteFTP. You could polk around but ...

You best hold off fixing ghost issues until slocko takes a crack at it.

Are you sure you are going down 2 levels. Entre PWD to check your current directory.

Back the truck up...

Apparently you are using FTP "DOS" command. I just tried it and got the same as you. I would do a CD 0m and it would say successful but I don't think it was. If you enter PWD it shows you didn't move.

Try this from the Media directory.

ftp> ls 0m/0m

You should see a list of your MP3s. I did. HTH your sanity. Get a real FTP program <grin>.

What I do is type the path manually
clicking on the directory just confuses the ftp client.
I have tried Cuteftp, WS FTP, FlashFXP... and it happens on all of them.

FYI - I don't have any trouble clicking on the directory in CuteFTP Pro. It works as I'd expect and takes me to that directory.

Under \7.0.5\commerce\html

I modified my top.html file to send me to google.com instead of opening the ad banner's link. Now if I want to browse the web, all I do is click on the top banner. I am thinking of creating a new html file containing my favorite links, so I can browse site from there.

Indeed. Assuming what you are thinking is what I did (terminalogy).

I just pointed to "Media" and to my harddisk directory. It ftp'd down all my MP3s and created the corresponding directories as you saw in an above post. It got 80% done and stopped for some reason. I had left it running when I went to work. I was able to start it up again tonight and it finished the rest of them.

I also then did a 'sync' where I told it to make my 'local' look like the 'remote'. It did go through them all pretty quickly but they were all the same as I expected.

P.S. As I mentioned in e-mail my USB-Ethernet connection stopped. I did the remaining 20% by just using the HPNA connection on the Entre. I'm leaving that for now and will try the USB again this weekend.

I just noticed the posts regarding howto access the other partitions... I was really excited this morning when I stumbled onto it by myself. We really need to put together a technical fact sheet... so we dont have to go through so many posts and/or reinvent the wheel.

You are brave.

BTW, you can take the URL in that html file ( http://www.openglobe.net/kenwood-ce3...?pid=MusicHome ) and just browse it directly. It is the same interface you get when you go thru the Entre. You do have to sign in. This is the user id and password listed in the Entre setup menu. (also the same one on the 'standard' web interface for your MP3s playlist creation that no longer works.)

It is really really too bad that the movie search with the Entre OG website doesn't match what the Entre uses in it's look up. The Entre uses its "MovieDB / VideoDB" and the Entre OG website uses " AMG All Movie Guide".

I am getting CuteFTP Pro now... the other apps just aren't cutting it for me. I thought it might have been the 0byte length files. There were also files with the same file name (except for a incremental number at the end) with different lengths. I guess when MM failed during a transfer, it would not cleanup after itself.

To be honest... one of the main factors why I bought the Entre was because the salesperson showed me the remote and pointed out to me the email and web buttons. He pitched it to me as a webtv unit on steroids. When I took it home, well you know the rest. Now I can check my email and browse the web without waiting for my workstation to boot up and shutdown!!! JOY........

That's a funny story. So you are going to point top.html to some custom page that provides links to your e-mail or to avsforum or to whereever. People obviously do that today on their PCs and make that custom page their browsers default page.

What I'm curious about tho is the resolution of the resulting web pages you go to. i.e. can you read all the letters/words in your e-mails. Is this on a RPTV using component. I use the RCA out of the Entre to a 16" TV today to play with the Entre instead of firing up my overhead LCD projector.

Opposite problem I guess as I leave my PC on 24x7.

I use a 27" inch Sharp that has component inputs. It looks fine. The only problem is the resolution. Its like 800x600. On pages like Yahoo, you can't see the right most column. Other than that, I can't complain. I wonder if I could use CSS to override font size and colors on websites? Sites look best when the background is a dark color. Now I know why OG used them.

It is a web based tool allowing you to create/edit playlist. ie. from your work office or any PC in your home without MM installed. It does not allow playing. That'd be cool and we discussed it early in the other thread.

I've e-mailed them a few times in the past couples months but they don't respond. I didn't even get an acknowledgment of receipt...geez.

i didn't realize you could surf with the entre. so does that mean that arrow keys jump from link to link on a page?

do you need to modify the xml files to create links or can you surf natively without modifying anything?

It has a decent viewer as well built in. Right click on the file name and pick 'view' menu option.

If I understand your question...then you can not just "surf" anywhere without doing what NiteOwl did. After pushing the openglobe button...you are surfing the web but just the pages that they have links to on the pages they bring up.

Looks like you are making progress getting in and out of the Entre via FTP. Have you found a way to open the FTP connection without having an Axcess? PM me if necessary.
