How about a thread for D-VHS coverart?

Would anyone be interested in having a discussion on D-VHS coverart? I always make custom covers for my collection, and wanted to know if there were many others interested in this as well.

Glad to see someone else is excited about this movie coming to HDNet next month. I too have been working on some coverart for this flick. Here is my work... Had to recreate the logo for the spine and did some other photoshop work to get it done.

Yes, I make custom stick labels for the top of the tape, but not the spine.

I have never tried to make them the silver metalic look. I do recall on dvdcoverart.com (now defunct) that there is a silver paper that is available. I never bought any though.

Brajesh...very nice job. I love it!

I just completed my cover for "The Rainmaker", and am pleased that it is being played in the OAR. Woo Woo! This cover was a bit of a booger because again, I had to locate the fonts for the the spine. The font is very very close.

I agree, that a tracer program might be quicker, but I have just always tried locating the fonts.

"Blow Out"? When is this on in HD?

When I make my covers for my recordings from Starz HD and Sho HD ect, I simply download a VHS cover form any online store, cut and paste, edit on paint and wellah a cover!

Here is my attempt at a cover for "Dutch." I had to use my VHS envelope...

All these covers look great, but isn't it quite time consuming to do them ?
It would be nice to be able to look up every movie somewhere and just print out the correct envelope - wishful thinking I guess :-)

It's definitely time-consuming, but making covers is as much a hobby & collecting movies (to me anyway).

Some of the covers can be done in a short amount of time. It just depends on source material availability. Some can take several hours. Either way, it is fun. Like Brajesh said, it is part of the hobby!

BUMP......

Thanks to all for providing samples, I'm using them for wallpaper, and loving it! Actually I was wondering if you guys do this sort of thing for a living? I never thought about making covers for my (D-VHS) HD movies (GRIN), where do you get the case's with plastic outer covers, (ie; DVD keepcase's er; D-Theater)? OTOH; I guess a web search for this type of product will provide some vendors. None the less keep posting samples, it's all too neat! And finally, a very positive part to this hobby! ;-)

Take care...... watch, record, and mainly enjoy some HDTV of your choice tonight.

Brajesh,
I'd have to draw the line at about 20 minutes per cover, more than that and it takes away too much from my precious movie watching time

Mikey...thanks for the feedback. No, I do not do this sort of thing for a living. It would be fun though...

Anyhoo, yes, just shop around for VHS cases with sleeve. I picked mine up at ebay. I used to go to the video store and ask for some. I would get them free, but most were beat up.

Here is one of my latest covers..."Boogie Nights". This was really a project of love, as I had a decent scan to work with, but the smaller text for the back of the cover needed to be redone, so, I FINALLY located the original font and decided to redo the entire back...removing some elements and adding a few others.

Soon, I hope to have some appropriate webspace to upload my work for others to enjoy and contribute as well.
