DVDs with house crumbling bass
Here is the list compiled by DrPainMD so you don't have to dig for it:
House crumbling DVD list I need more toys for my new PB12-ISD. Aside from what SVS recommends what do you guys like, especially horror movies if there are any with good bass. So far I have Finding Nemo, LOTR Trilogy, SW Ep 1 & 2, Shaun of the Dead, and I thought Sky Captain would bring our ceiling down on us I need to snag copies of U-571, The Haunting, Daredevil, and I, Robot. Any other recommendations?Feel free to chastise me for not using the search function. I did, I just wanted to see if any titles came up I haven't heard mentioned before. As far as Sky Captain goes, all I can say is this movie will put a smile on the face of anyone with a decent sub. Last edited by mlankton; 11-08-06 at 09:57 AM.. |

I got Titan AE at target for $5 and the ice field scene (ch 16) is the best... my wife thought we were having an earthquake and she was clear on the other side of the house.

Watched The Grudge last night and there is a good couple crumbling points.
During the opening credits at the end when the hand hits the blood puddle. Another near the end when the mans hanging body is hitting the wall. peace

Godzilla. The one with Matthew Broderick. Room shaking. As a bonus, the opening menu has huge bass on a 20 second loop. I'm pretty sure some of it is sub-20hz too, but I never measured. Lots of air coming out of the sub port. This is great for someone with a projector who wants to experiment a bit without firing up the projector.
Also, the menu comes up very quickly. No previews. FBI warning, some corporate logo and then the menu. Less than 30 seconds. I know the menu by heart, cycling it endlessly while trying to get the shakers just right, and now again when setting up my new sub. |

Let me diverge for a sec....
Would you guys agree that what is bone jarring for one is ho-hum for another? I thought about all the different parameters that could be at work here: -placement, calibration, in-room FR, sub(s), taste I say this because I didn't find "I, Robot" or "DAT" or many other listed titles to be teeth rattling. Top Gun, Fifth Element (I have the Ult. ed)..... really?! Admittedly, my Servo15 doesn't go much below 18hz and I normally watch at about -14db from reference. I live an a 2br apartment and the Servo is eq'ed fairly flat with a BFD. here's my short list: Haunting DTS Master and Commander DTS Titan AE There are many other titles with good bass as other have listed, but those three are always the ones I grab if I'm in the mood. Perhaps if I could do 20hz at 110db (I don't think my servo can do that, maybe 3 of them), I could add more to the list. I'm watching The Grudge and Sky Cpt tonight!

The "Chargin' Pipe" scene in Blue Crush is another serious sustained subwoofer workout. I often use this to verify I won't easily overdrive the subwoofers after calibration (among others).

I found the depth charge scene in U-571 was great. Day after tomorrow was unreal ( the big wave scene that crushes NY city) I had a chance to hear Ed Mullins SVS PB12 Ultra/2 and while my subwoofer system is no slouch the lower limits on that thing was unreal. Hence my need for a LT circuit.

We just finished watching that on my new VTF-3, even the wife was like "OH MY GOD!" towards the end of the movie with that huge explosion... Since My sub is new, I think its almost broken in now after this movie...I will probably Pop in another one of these good BASS DVD movies and that should do the trick. It would be the 4th movie watched on the new sub and a few songs played on it.... Thx, Claude Last edited by 95 Silver TA; 02-07-05 at 11:54 PM.. |

Don't forget the "Matrix" trilogy. Also, Shrek2, especially towards the end with the giant gingerbread man.

I really liked the tracks on Titan AE (especially the ice field) and of course the LOTR DTS tracks. I really thought Spidey 2 was way overdone in the bass (and elsewhere). It's loud, but not realistic, IMO. Saving Private Ryan should make you feel like there's a tank coming through the wall. Play it loud. For bass that will make your sub curl up and whimper like a little tweeter girl, the train sequence at the beginning of 'Unbreakable' is the worst. If your sub can play this anywhere near reference, you are a man, my son! ![]()

The Haunting as a movie is terrible. But for sheer bass output that thing is untouchable. If you can find the DTS version that is. The DTS version is a full bit rate DTS audio track. They also mixed the movie for full frequency response for all 6 channels and of course good bass response in the sub. If you have 6 full range channels the chapter where she sits in the bed and the knocking happens will give tear you a new one at reference levels.......never heard anything like it in my life
