I felt this needed to be done, the new Syntax LT37HVS just looks too good for people interested in purchasing an LCD TV without breaking the bank. I haven't seen it in any stores yet (since it just came out), so I can't comment on the picture quality compared to other similar sets, but the specs on this thing are just really impressive:

I haven't seen it in any brick and mortars yet but I have seen one particular online vendor that is currently selling it at an incredible price(over $300 cheaper than I paid for the LT37HVE two months ago) with only $60 shipping(not white glove). I am trying to convince the wife that we should upgrade but she's not biting yet.

By the way, how do you like the LT37HVE? I'm really curious as to how people like the Syntax LCDs, as I'm thinking about buying the LT37HVS for myself.

So it has just a single tuner? Won't this affect the ability to do PIP with split screen like the older model?

Also, it lists 4:3, 16:9, and panoramic and full instead of zoom.[/i] I wonder how this compares to the various stretch mode of other widescreens for watching SD?

I continue to kick around the idea of a syntax for a bedroom set, but haven't been convinced that any of the previous models would be satisfactory for the usual SD tv viewing. (I'm sure it would be great for DVD viewing). Any reason to think this set would be better?

It's my first LCD TV purchase and overall I am very pleased with it. The fact that I don't have to worry about geometry issues compared to my old Toshiba 34HF81 is reason enough for me enjoy the panel. I use LG panels for all my PC's and have found them to be good quality. The menu layout on the LT37HVE is a little awkward and I don't like the responsiveness or design of the remote but I can live with such shortcomings given the price points these sets are at. I suspect that the HVS model will have virtually identical menu layouts and a similar remote but hopefully Syntax has been paying attention to customer complaints/suggestions and has made some adjustments.

The cable box will be my tuner, won't be using the TV's anyway. The SD viewing, of course, depends on the tuner your using. I have the Motorola 6412 and it does a very good job in general, some channels are better than others obviously.

I had planned on getting the LT37HVS for use with Games and DVDs only, so I wouldn't even need to worry about how SD looks. I like the fact that it has an 8ms response time to prevent ghosting, which is actually quicker than all of the Sharp models out there that I've seen. So do you guys think that this would be a decent TV for my needs? Oh and how's the picture quality on it?

Well if you going to use it for games and DVD's only you'll be very happy. I played several games at 1280X720 on it and they looked great. Crisp and clear and I didn't see any ghosting during some ferocious HL2 DM'ing. The PQ is very nice.

Fry's has been clearing the 37" HVE for awhile, I think the HVS will arrive in Oct. Before people actually see it or own it, don't expect a lot of replies in this thread.

I saw this Sunday @ HHGreg, I thought it was the older model but the sales person
pointed otherwise & they have a $100 mail in rebate.

The PQ is amazing, detail's really sharp & colors pop!!...... they also have the HVE & it can't even compare.

the price difference between the Fry's clearance on the HVE & this is only $400..... no brainer!!

I tried holding out for the HVS for a long time, but I finally caved in and went with the Costco Sharp 37d5u. It was a great deal and I am really happy with it, but still curious how the HVS turned out for everyone. I had the 32HVE and it was real nice especially for cable and PC when powerstripped to native resolution. The 37HVE was disappointng to me PQ wise, especially analog cable. How is the the PQ and the ATSC tuner on the HVS?

Fry's has the new LT37hVS, i was messing around with it for the longest time, and really wasn't that impressed. Certainly the PQ is better than the other models Syntax has put out not so much to blow me away, and go buy one. For the price its a great tv, with all its features.

I'm interested in purchasing a Syntax Olevia LCD TV what's the difference between the LT37HVS and LT37HVE? I'll be mainly using in for the Xbox 360 and a few movies here and there.

The LT37HVS is the newer model and incorporates Syntax's iDEA technology, which apparently provides a better picture, it also has an HDMI port as well whereas the LT37HVE does not. And the price difference between the two is so small you might as well get the newer one.

I was at Fry's in San Diego (Aero Drive Exit) and they did not have the HVS in stock just yet, but htey still had HVEs on clearance. I think I'll just wait for the HVS.

I just got one from computers4sure and I have yet to get a HDTV box from comcast and I don't have a DVD player yet.

So far, it works. The regular analog broadcast has static ghosting more than my 12 year old MAGNAVOX has. The colors are vibrant compared to the old MAGNAVOX, but overall I would say the MAGNAVOX has a better anolog picture than this does. Even if the ghosting was taken out. But it is ok since it is a flat panel and if the HDTV turns out to look ok.

The remote control sort of looks like a design from the 70s or 80s... big black thing with sqaure buttons. It looks like Darth Vader's remote control.

I plan on running over and picking up a HDTV box tomorrow from comcast or they will charge $55 to bring it out... although they just brought this box out a week ago for free. Go figure?

I will probably have Syntax send out a tech under warranty and see if they can adjust the analog ghosting out.

Actually the more I watch this, the better lookig it gets... could be I think the old MAGNAVOX is better looking just because I have been looking at it for 12 years and this is just "different". Either that or the picture is getting better the more I use it... not sure... LOL

I am not used to having such bright whites on the old set. This think has really bright whites. Real bright shots of like bright light or electrical panels throwing sparks and flames are really bright. The black levels look fine to me. I was just looking at a celebrity poker thing and alot of them were wearing black and the fabric looked really black, yet you could see details... looked like real black clothing... not just black sillouettes of clothes or dark gray looking... really black.

Anyway the analog picture is fine, except I still see more static ghosting.

This one has ATSC tuner. Can you just plug an antenna and watch HDTV?

However about DVD quality?

Did you try to hook up a computer to this LCD?

Ya it has an ATSC tuner and "antenna" in.

I got the comcast HDTV digitial box hooked up and the HD broadcasts look great. I am hooked up to the YPbPR1 connection.

The analog broadcasts through the YPbPR1 connection has alot of noise in it, they look better through the coax out and in to the "antenna" connection with the TV on Channel 3.

Don't have a DVD player yet, but am getting one soon.

I hooked my laptop up and it works and it looks ok except it doesn't do the resolution of the monitor so it is streched out.

The specs are near identical to the 37" Sceptre except the native resolution of 1366x768 compared to the Sceptre's 1920x1080. Price is almost the same too, although I think the Syntax is a nicer looking design.

Peter, could you comment on how PIP works on this one. I know on the HVE model it had 2 tuners so you could do TV on both PIC1 and PIC2 using PIP. But now when it has 1 ATSC and 1 NTSC tuner, how can you do PIP with TV, or can you hook TV up through you VCR to Svideo.. or how would i get PIP with 2 TV channels on this one?

Well, to be fair, no HDTV is great at showing SD. With calibration using AVIA, ISF(is that right?) or something else, it should improve it somewhat.
