Recent Rock/Metal DVD-Audio/SACD/DDs?

I recently introduced some friends and roomates to the wondors of DVD-Audio and SACD, all of which sounds absolutely amazing playing off my Onkyo-SP1000. What I'm looking for is any good rock/metal discs to play. Any recomendations? Anything from the late 80s-90s to now would be preferable.

Anything I'm missing/should look at?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Stone Temple Pilots - Core (DVDA)
I only have this album on CD, so I don’t know how the DVDA sounds.

Can't believe I missed STP. I was actually a big fan of that album and have it on regular CD as well. Heading over to Best buy to see if I can find one right now.

Thanks,
Dan

Bon Jovi's Last 2 Albums released on DualDisc are DVD-A. I belive the album titles are Slippery When Wet and their latest release "Have a Nice Day"?

What, they don't like Deep Purple???

They're not exactly metal, but both DVD-A discs from Porcupine Tree can be pretty aggressive at times; In Absentia and Deadwing.

You might also want to check these out:

Widespread Panic - Don't Tell The Band
Joe Satriani - Strange Beautiful Music.

Been looking for some as well,as my new player comes in today. I already have NIN's, Metallica, Megadeath.

While not excatly metal Queen's the Game on DTS(played it at 96k stereo) is great sounding and does rock. DSOTM is a crowd pleaser for a lot of metalheads as well.

I think we could replace "best" with "any". Very slim pickings for Hi Rez heavy stuff.

Try the Blue Man Group DVD-A "Audio".
It's not metal, but it'll qualify as rock.

Porcupine Tree's Deadwing will be a crowd pleaser, even if they never heard of them.

I'm going to give a listen to some clips from Porcupine Tree as everyone here seems to love them, going by the several threads and recomendations I've seen.

Thanks for the suggestions, you guys are helping me find those albums that somehow seemed to slip through the cracks.

Thanks,
Dan

I'm pretty sure you're referring to "The Other Side" unless you know something I don't (which would be cool -- I like "Awake").

Other titles not yet mentioned:

Queensryche - Empire & Tribe DVD-As
Iron Maiden - Dance with the Devil DVD-A
Disturbed- Believe DVD-A
Staind - 14 Shades of Gray DVD-A

Formatted the list in the first post, and added several more selections I've found. Hope this helps anyone looking for these CDs.

Empire is an excellent DVD Audio disc. Great recording and good use of the surround channels without being over barring. I find it to be one of my top ten dvd audio disc.

The DualDiscs you metioned, do they have true DVD-A mixes or are they DTS/DD/LPCM, etc??

The Tea Party - Illuminations. It's a DVD video, but with a high bitrate DTS surround mix by the band's own Jeff Martin. Has some interesting surround use and (to my ears at least) way more clarity than CD.

On the other hand, whatever you do, avoid the Alice in Chains Greatest Hits SACD - especially if you're a fan. Just plain terrible surround mixes.

Not sure if it fits your category, but Oasis: What's the Story Morning Glory in SACD

Not a very good MC mix, so save your money.

The NIN discs are true DVD-A (The Downward Spiral is doubleplusgood!).

The only other dual-disc I have on the list is Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake, the DVD side is DD.

I'm pretty sure the AC/DC Back in Black DualDisc isn't dvd-audio, but rather just regular dvd 16 bit 48 khz PCM. Or as Sony calls it, "enhanced Stereo."

I don't want anymore bass...guitars...ever. Someone recommended a Linkin' Park DVD-A disc "Reanimation" to me as a good listen. 20 tracks later as my ears are bleeding and my fillings have all come undone, I think I have all the bass I need, thank you. I couldn't turn it down low enough...good gawd. This was truly a aural assault... I doubt i will ever listen to this Disc again, it wasn't bad but i was not prepared for this. I'm only 32 but this was my clue that I'm not hip anymore. The only song I thought I knew was "In the End" which I was ready to enjoy and the re-animated that song to some crazy beat and scratch, rip and repeat, cut creator or whatever, I thought I was losing my mind or the disc was scratched or something.

They said it was an aggressive mix, no kidding...this band never let up. I couldn't tell track 1 from track 20. That was the most sonically damaging experience my ears have ever been through...I am scrambling to find some Carly Simon to get back my equilibrium. Was this the stuff they used to smoke Saddam out of hiding, man...this disc goes in the box along with John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins (who I both love) "Tenor Madness" disc that sounded like they were both in the jungle killing elephants. I only listened to a few tracks on that disc and realized it was well beyond me, I figured maybe I'm not old enough to appreciate this...I'll check back in 10 yrs maybe I'll get it then. With this Linkin Park, clealry I'm not young enough to appreciate this disc and I'm afraid I'll find some kid I don't like very much and give it to him. I swear to you it feels like my ears are dripping blood.
