Official CES 46" Sony Bravia Thread

Just thought I would post the start of information on this new set, the guys over at engadget posted a pic of the new set and a little bit of info from the sony press preview check it out here:

Lets use this thread to add to the information on this set as new stuff comes out during the week.

My one personal comment on the picture in the preview is that I am very happy to see them using the same form factor as the 40in for the 46" ...I better start saving my money!

Mhh according to that press release of pt270 they didnt mention the 1080p models.

No, but it does mention 7 new Bravia’s. By my count it describes 6. Absent, of course, is the description of the 46” 1080p - presumably the KDLV-46XBR1?

I've been patiently waiting for the 46" XBR. It will be our main TV, so it will be showing SD, DVD, especially HD cable. I'm looking at this vs. the 55" SXRD. My two questions (besided the obvious screen size and wall mountability) are response time and viewing angles.

Anyone know these figures yet?

It's strange that the stated CR of the new models is 1,000:1 whereas the current Bravias are stated as 1,300:1.

Yeah hopefully there will be more info on the 46in 1080P XBR TV over the next few days, this press relealse doesnt really have much info on it. Hopefully this TV will be out in Feb/March as well.

Is it confirmed that this Bravia V series 46 inch would be sold within the year? (most probably within H2 of 2006?)

I want to know this because if they are, then I might as well tell my dad to hold off plans to purchase the KLV-V40A10 and wait for a 46 inch instead.

Any info on this?

Ken, only the current XBR Bravias are 1300:1. Those model specs in the release are all for the new non-XBR units.

Sony's Press Statement says that the the KDL-46S2000 will be aviailbe in May. This is not a 1080p set and has one HDMI input. The picture posted on Endgaget shows a 46" in the same Form Factor as the current XBR that claims to be a 1080p set with no other details. The picture on watch.impress website shows yet another 46" version hanging on the wall. Finally, the X Series already in Japan is also different. Unfortunately, I don't think we know exactly when Sony's 46" 1080p set for the US is coming and what it's going to look like. At least it apperas that it might be sometime this year.

at the watch inpress site it shows the 46 inch model of the X series and says its 1080p, and says the rest are not. a floor model with the exact same specs might just give people an idea of what the USA is getting but it will look different look? usually what they bring is what you get

I'm confused by the sony press release. Currently the XBR's have V in the model number, such as KDL-V32XBR1, and the lower models have S in the model number such as KLV-S32A10.

But in this press release it seems to be saying that there will be two new lines, one the S series, now the higher one, and the other the KLV monitor series the lower one.

Is the new S series replacing the XBR? Or is the XBR still better than this new S series? And is the new S series then replacing the old S series, and the new monitors are a third level now below that? So confusing!

japan has 2 S series one is still called WEGA and one is called bravia S series.

-bravia s series has a 40 inch and a 32 inch with better specs like the US XBR's

-wega s series has a 32, 26,23, and a 19 inch basic which are basic LCD-tv's

these new sonys that we just saw today from the sony website(KDL_46S200,KLV-32U100) are brand new designs that i have never seen. the watch impress site does not show a 46 inch version of this tv only the x series 46 inch is shown

and the X series 1080p 46,40 inch TV's are not even show on the sony site yet but the 46 inch is at the show.

From what I gather the S series is going to be a lower budget line, from reading the prices in the press release and whatnot, the XBR is still going to be the higher end sets and they are adding to that a 46" model which is 1080P. My next question is does this new XBR have the new HDMI format to be able to accept 1080P inputs.

the X series 1080p displays 46/40 inchers accept 1080p in both HDMI inputs and 1920x1080@60hz in the pc input

I think Sony is possibly showing two 1080p capable sets in two different form factors. One is the X Series that is currently out in Japan. The other is in the same form as the current XBR line in the US. I'm betting we are getting the XBR Form Factor with the X Series guts. Perhaps they only had one 46" XBR assembled in time fro CES?

I would be ok with the X series guts as long as it also accepted 1080P input, I refuse to spend the crazy $$$ on it if it doesnt have that
