[s]Bulb[/s] UHP Lamp Life 2006: All Microdisplay owners please vote
I originally posted a poll on this back in March '05. I figure now a lot of people have put more hours on their sets and I figured I'd re-poll.
Here's last years poll http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=516125 CCourtney EDIT: Corrected URL to point to last years poll instead of a picture of my TV ![]() EDIT: Adding information about Service Menu's so users can find their lamp usage. Most people can find the hours on their bulb by going into their Service Menu (SM). If people send me a PM I'll post links threads indicating how to get into the SM of various sets. Instructions for entering the SM of various HDTVs Samsung DLP Sets: With power off, using the remote Mute, 1, 8, 2, Power will get you into your service menu. Caution: Before changing settings in the SM it is strongly advised that you write down all the settings in the SM. There have been reports of people damaging sets by making changes in the SM, so if you're not comfortable don't do it. Browsing the SM to find the bulb usage does not require the changing of SM settings. There also needs the be the ability to change your vote or at the least vote again. Say, for example, I vote that my lamp is still working on the original from 2-4K at 2500 hours and I vote accordingly. Six months later it goes out at 3500 hours. I would want to change my vote or add an additional one. Just a thought.

Your choices were fine. Too bad more don't vote.
Possible solution is to post 'How Tos' for the SM for the more popular sets.

I just voted; 6K+ on orignal lamp. I've held off fearful that I'd be jinxing myself. (Tomorrow is Friday the 13th afterall).
Anyway, I ordered my replacement lamp already and expect to be swapping it in this weekend. My strategy is to use the new one within its 90 warranty and store the new one, that I am hoping will still work, as a backup should I have bulb failure. YMMV EDIT: I have a 42 inch GWIII RP that was purchased in October 2003. Finally did it with 6,488 hours on the original. Placed it in box and stored it as a spare just in case.

I find this strange, maybe I'm trolling...
With 52 votes in only 4 of them have replaced their bulb. That's 7.7%. With all the complaining about having to replace our bulbs and the cost and the short life span and 'only people with problems read these forums' and related talk on this board you would think it would be much higher. I also figure 4K-6K hours is reasonable life for these bulbs, I know I don't always treat my bulb well. So less than 4% (so far) have had an early failure, and likely replace under warranty. Not bad - so far. |

Um how do people know how many hours are on their bulbs.Do the sets have some counter in there you can reset or something?I can't imagine the average guy would log his hours.I sure don't.And if no counter in the tv then these are all just best guess data and might be very off.

Maybe the owner of the thread could edit his 1st post to include mentioning the SM and thread links to some of the more popular models.

I voted 4-6K original bulb, but to clarify, I had gotten 4-6k out of my original bulb. Then I only got about 1800 hours on the second bulb at failure. I will also toss out my personal opinion...no projection TV set ever again...has since been replaced with a Hitachi 55" Plasma. I love it.
Good Luck, Mark

I updated the Samsung link for entering the SM, since it wasn't there orginally.
