I have started off not using prepacks and so far have no jamming problems at all. I'm using the measuring cup that came with the machine to add the corn, and the correct size piece of the Lou Ana coco-butter sticks. It works very well, and fairly fast when pre-heated for about 3-4 minutes.

Im thinking this may be the way to go as well. I tried to find coconut oil locally but have had no luck so it looks like im going to either have to purchase the lou ana stick or a gallon of coconut oil. How many batches can you make out of 1 stick? price wise it looks better to buy the 1 gallon container then the 1lb of lou ana's

just grab it with a pair of pliers and bend it down so it is on an angle not straight up and down, just look at the way it spins to make sure you bend it the right way so it makes the bent part like a scoop-I will try to take a pic...also i just got another machine because i bought one when it was not on sale then it went on sale but they made me return the other one and repurchase another one instead of giving me the diff in money...anyway point is the one i just got is alittle different then the first --the light on this one is in the front -other was in the back-also top of machine the piece that is held on by like six screws sticks up alittle other one was flat and had a round piece that stuck up --I will try to get a pic of this too.

The one I have the light is on the front as well the top is also flat and is raised slightly.does the stirer on your current one look the same as the last one? I attached a pic of my kettle do you mean to bend the part I have circled in red to the yellow position?

so you want to bend the part that looks like a upside down U .I believe it spins clockwise so you want to bend the part in your pic the same way you said with the yellow line you can also bend the part you circled but bend that the other way the way you have the yellow line for that it would be stabbing the pop corn not lifting it .i hope this all makes sense.i just bent the u and that worked so you bend it some and then try it and listen to the motor if it seems like it is still struggling bend it more.the first time i used mine it jammed so i got all engineer on its ASS, stood there and looked at it thinking to myself what to do what would help it work i came up with bending it and it has not jammed since .also considered puttin a HEMI in it !!!

I think I understand what your saying now. I need to bend it back making a wedge. I was thinking to bend the left side towards the center I guess looking at the picture it could look like it could be bent towards the back which would stab the popcorn. Im going to give this a try tommorrow without splitting up my prepak and hopefully the popcorn wont get stuck in the kettle. Thanks for being patient with me.

If you are using the 1 gal liquid oil, it may be easier if you get one of those squeeze bottles and just pour your oil first into the squeeze bottle. You can mark off on the side of the squeeze bottle how much an ounce is with gradations. Fairly easy to then point the squeeze bottle into the kettle and squeeze out the right amount. After several times you will know how much to use. It really isn't all that critical.

OK, so after initially having no jamming trouble at all, last night it jammed twice during each of two batches I made. So it jammed 4 times total. Guess I'll be bending the stir rod too and let y'all know how it works for me too.
I also have a large number of un-popped kernals that seem to be getting blown out of the kettle with the poppers. After making two batches I gathered all the "old maids" and measured them to be 2/3 of a 509 measuring cup full. That's close to half of the total kernals used! ![]()

Strummer I agree you should bend the stirer, I took my kettle apart to bend it, I tried bending it with a mini vise grip inside the kettle but it was going slow. I took the kettle apart and bent it 1,2,3 then reassembled took all of 5 minutes. On the old mades Im not having as many as you Im probably getting about 20-30 per batch. I noticed most of these fly out in the begining when the lids first open. Im thinking about experimenting with putting metal washers on top to weight it down slightly and see if that helps.

Popcorn machine manufacturers missing a market segment?
I've seen a lot of 4oz or larger popcorn makers that have the features I'm looking for. However with just 2 of us at home now and the occasional friends over I can't see the need for the larger poppers. Are there any well built 2oz machines with the same features but in a slightly smaller size? Most of the negatives I've seen on the 2oz'ers are the fact the 'glass' is plexi/lexan and that the inside is too cramped. Any leads or suggestions? Last edited by MeadMkr; 01-23-06 at 06:05 PM.. |

I think the 2oz hot oil poppers are a little too small. If you have the room for a 4oz machine I would definatley reccomend it. Popping 4oz is plenty for two people. If its just me and my wife 4oz will last us 2 nights of movie watching. you can allways pop less if you so desire. You can also pop a couple of batches and fill the poper if your going to have company and there will be plenty for all. Win/Win in my opinion. If you dont have the room then I would look into the whirly pop or stir crazy before getting a 2oz popper.

Okay, okay... I know you all steered me towards a larger poppers but between the spousal approval factor and the budget they aren't on the table (pun intended).
Costco currently has the 2oz on sale right now for $60 which includes shipping so I ended up going that route. I checked the local prices of the Stir Crazy and it wasn't much less and the popper would look a bit better on the corner of the counter I already told her that I want one of the 4 or 6oz poppers on the cart for my bday and without blinking an eye she said 'maybe' Now if it just comes in before the Super Bowl so I can get a few practice batches made in it! Cheers, Chris http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...v=&browse=&s=1 |

How long does Costco normally take to ship these things? I ordered the 4oz on Wed. night, and the status page still shows "In Process" 3 days later.

![]() Already planning on whipping up a batch of clarified butter. Now if I can just find a local source for coconut oil. Guess I'll have to try Wegmann's which is a dangerous enough place itself. I just upgraded my D* service for the local HD channels [ the installer just left] so we'll likely be spending even more time downstairs in front of the TV and lots of opportunities for popcorn making; as if one needs an excuse Cheers, MeadMkr (aka Chris) |

Cool; I ordered mine on 01/25 (late), but the order status still says "in process". How did you confirm that it is due to arrive on 01/30, or did the order status update on Friday or over the weekend?
