New Sxrd "green Blob" Poll

OK...GUYS!!!

Here is the "new" SXRD Green Blob Poll...

It allows ALL SXRD owners to vote.

But, please...Can you give give build dates on your sets?

And this poll is NOT about "blue hue" or other anomalies?

GREEN BLOB ONLY!!!

AND "GREEN BLOB" THAT STAYS AROUND DURING ACTIVE PICTURE TO VARYING DEGREES!!!

Thanks for playing...

My brother and friend have a 50 and 60 respectively with GREEN BLOB. I am on my 2nd SXRD with GREEN BLOB after returning the first for the same problem. Im going to keep returning it until I get a good one.

Thumbs up

Mine is a November build.
I can see a green doughnut at cold startup but it's completely gone in a few mins when it's warmed up.
I watch quite a bit of B&W on the history channel & such so if it was there I'd see it.

I don't consider it a problem.

greenie

November 2005 build...NO Green Goblin at this point.....of course it probably helps that I'm just a bit red/green colorblind
Don't want to skew the research/poll, so I'll ask the wife and report anything different.

Ranamy trying to get things clear. You have no green blob in center area or green at sides of set at startup. Are you looking on the memory stick screen by pushing memory stick button with no stick in there and set menu to gray or do you mean it fades like most do until you can't really notice it?

If there are any sets out there that dont have the green blob at turn on I want to know and will push twice as hard for one that doesnt' have it as if it don't have it at turn on it likely won't have it after warmup when it fades down.

I find it hard to believe any sets don't have it on startup. Many many guys have said they have it at startup.

The problem is not at start up of couse only if there is residual showing up after warmup even hour or more later.

blob

Mine has a huge green blob in the center and a small one in the top left of the screen. 50" Nov. 2005 build. It does go away after about 10 minutes.

SXRD #2 same thing. Also Nov. 2005 build.

Then why are you so obsessed about start up? If they go away after 10 mins., who cares if they have it on start up?

none I can see

Al,

I haven't noticed it but I will try to get my wife this evening to double check these places this happens on start up. I don't see any green glob, etc. on start up even on a white background.....like I said I am a bit RG colorblind but usually can see green on white.....keep in mind too that I don't have a good feed yet...my directv HD box is supposed to be installed this afternoon. I've been watching mostly SD if that means anything.

Ciao

BIG J.Some guys seem to say they have no green blob at all even on start up.If that is true than why bother with a green blob set that has to fade out after 5 ,10 whatever minutes. Its still an annoying 5 or 10 minutes.

If some sets have absolutely no green blob at startup then I will make them exchange till get me one like that.

And as said mine has the green haze in active picture..subtle but there. You can help it out a bit with vivid and cool temp setttings, playing with white balance don't seem to do that much.
I dont' think the green is an actual color thing..its there in black and white with color turned down so its more likely a bulb problem like hots spots or alignment engine problem, maybe shipping problem or defective screen manufacturing problem or uneven
lcos panel problems.I would love to open set and poke around a bit but not on warranty.I have some technical experience in electronics but not going to void warranty
fixing sonys mistake.

And that is why I am harping on this now where before agreed with you.If the set only has this problem on 5 minute warmup then can live with it. But if its in active picture that crosses my line in the sand.Sony can damn well fix it or give me money back.

Al B. I have the slight blob problem...

It only affects B&W a little.

I had to turn down the Green Gain and Bias in the White Balance set-up.

ALL THE WAY DOWN...

Do what you wish, if that makes you happy. I come home, turn on the set, go upstairs and change, check my e-mail etc. and then come downstairs and the blob is gone. It seems to be related to temperature , as I posted elsewhere when I accidentally turned off the set last night , and then turned it on a few minutes later, there was no blob on turn on.
Also note, despite what you may have observed, the question has been posted in the Qulaia thread-they don't get the green blob.
So, how many sets have you had?

I am maximum360 and I am Xbox infected.

Some people have varying degrees of colorblindness (mostly men) so that can account for some seeing it while others can't. Then there's the level of color intensity (of the abnormality) which also varies from set to set.

My wife easily saw the blue hue issue in the last set but not so easily with this one but then again she's accustomed to watching tv on a 27" tv (which is horrible even for crt standards). She does however see the green halo.

My fear is that Sony and M$ are in a competition for complete dominance in my livingroom. I almost positive that everytime I turn on my Xbox 360, the tv just gets a little greener.

Slight Green Blob / November Build

I have a slight green blob even after several hours. Its only noticeable in mostly grey scenes and I don't consider it a problem for me in viewing. When I first got the set around Jan. 1st it didn't have the blob (and I was aware of the issue so I looked for it.) Considering the blob showed up after a few weeks of use it makes me wonder if the lamp has something to do with the issue - something like contamination, like skin oils perhaps, on the lamp that over time affects the surface and hence the transmission of light. But I'm guessing here.

I have a November build.

Ditto here. I did not notice the green blob at first, but it has definitely gotten worse and when you bring up the show screen under the cablecard menu (gray background) it is very obvious. When watching hockey games, it is noticeable in the same areas, but I would say it is more yellow than green. I am going to pull my bulb out and see if I can detect any discoloring of the bulb.
