Cool Sony RM-AX4000 Thread

I looked & didn't find a thread for the new Sony remote so I thought I'd start one.

I've had the RM-AX4000 for about 2 months now, overall I like it.
It's nice to have all my equipment controlled by one remote.
To have descrete codes for the inputs on my SXRD makes things easier too.

About the only thing that bothers me is the same thing that bothers me about all touch screens, the lack of feel on the screen, I have to look at the screen most of the time to see what button I'm hitting.
I'm sure this will be lessened as I memorize the buttons but it is a pain to have to put on my reading glasses to see the butons on the remote.

I got a great deal on mine at Buy.com (around $120), Here's some more info I found.

Windows XP drivers for RM-AX4000
Windows 2000 drivers for RM-AX4000
RM-AX4000 page on Sony Style

Just got this remote last week. I read all the bad reviews about programming it but figured I could breeze through it as I already have a av2100. The fact I got a brand new one for 99 bones helped to. Well I was the programming was a breeze I had it up and running and tweaked out with all the macros in about a hour. Fine tuned the settings such as backlight and tone settings and I love it. The only downfall I see is the buttons on the touchscreen are not completely customizable. (if that is even a word). Overall this remote is a A-

Where are these available other than sonystyle? Do you know if it will operate all the functions of a Sony DHG-HDD250 dvr?

Thanks.

I got mine at Buy.com for $119

I would imagine since it's a Sony it will have no problems with operating other Sony products.

Thanks. I found several sources after I posted that question. I posted the functionality question in the HDD250/500 forum so I'll see if anyone there has tried it with their dvr.

I am leaning toward the new sony remote over the Harmony 880. I was curious if this will control A lutron maestro Ir Light switch. Also I want it to control my HK 235, but i dont haver the remote for it since it was damaged when HArman shipped it to me. Can the sony still learn the commands for the HK 235 without learning from the old remote. I see it says it has PC programing cababilities but i have read they dotn work well or are for macros. ???? Any help>???
Thanks

On My RMAX4000 I used the old remotes to set up.
I had to push the power button on most of the equipment & the remote did the rest, However there are codes you can punch in & Harmon Kardon codes are included.
What is the HK 235 & I'll see if my paperwork shows a code for it.

There is a code for Harmon Kardon recievers in the preset code list for the RMAX4000.

With all the threads about the Harmony remotes it seems it is a popular choice, for those sony cammander owners what helped you pick this remote over other?
Thanks

Cool

After playing with both remotes at a local dealer the Sony felt more intuitive, meaning I seemed to know how to operate it as soon as I picked it up.
Also with most of my equipment being Sony I knew I wouldn't have any problems with a Sony remote controlling everything.

to end a macro with a component view showing on the remote

i didnt see this documented anywhere. maybe it is but i couldnt find anything about it

* this pertains only if you're setting up the remote using the remote itself and not the pc-software

if you want at the end of a macro to have the macro switch to a component screen, as the last step of your macro select the component and press the 'light' button

this saves you the extra step of selecting a component after a macro has been run. took me hours to figure this out. now my parents press one button and the tv changes input, the cable changes to their favorite channel, and the remote's screen changes to cable making the volume/channel buttons active

I can't get this thing to function correctly at all. I have an Onkyo TXSR603X, Scientific Atlanta HD cable box from TW, Sony DVPNS70H DVD player and a KDFE60A20 TV. It will not change the inputs on the TV correctly at all. It just randomly picks inputs whenever I hit the xPress function. It won't open the tray on my DVD player for some reason and it can't find the correct codes for the 603, it just guesses.

Anyone have any insight into getting this to work before I scrap the whole thing and get a Harmony?

Yes, then you add the missing commands via learning. I own 7 dtivos, so I had to abandon preset codes altogether and teach each and every command for 7 tivos.

Hi. Sorry to quote from a very old message, but I also need the USB drivers. Does anyone out there have one they can post or email to me? The Sony website does not have the USB driver - only the editing software.

Thanks.

In ax4000? there isn't one. The first sony universal remote to have code for the current line of dtv receivers is the vl600, code in it is sat 3214.

What all can you control with this remote? I have a Flat screen TV, Sat receiver, DVD player and a surround receiver. Will this remote control all the functions of each of these? How do you get the IR codes? Learn them? Thanks!

Yeah pretty much. There are a lot of codes pre-set and it will learn others directly from the remotes. I have TV, cable box, video, AV amplifier and DVD. For these , even though they were mainly Sony and had codes pre-set, I still taught it some different functions to work in the way I wanted.

I got the latest software off the Sony site as apparently the original version that comes with it is a bit duff. I had no problems using the software. It took a little while to get the macro functions working properly, but that's partly because my TV is inconsistent in the way it selects the AV channels. Other than that it has been a dream to have. The display is clear and responds well, the IR seems to have good range and power and programming via USB is quick and easy.

Best of all, I got mine for £50 on eBay, whereas to replace my broken AV remote from Sony would have cost about £150! Far more functionality for a third of the price.

You'll have no problem controling all of those.

I have mine controling my TV (SXRD), Surround reciever, CD player, DVD player (all Sony ES), DirecTV HR20, 2 JVC VCR's & a Play station 2.
It has room for more if needed.

Rm-ax4000 Sony Remote Problem

I was trying to program a sony RM-AX4000 remote and it would not take the cable/sat button from a yamaha rxv1200 remote. all other functions worked, the sony tv, sony dvd. scientific cable box, and all but the cable/sat button on the yamaha reciever. As you might imagine this makes it impossible to program a macro to watch tv with the sound coming from the yamaha reciever. Help

Try looking on the sony website under customer care. Once you get to the support page for the RM-AX4000, there is a place you can get codes from. It seems that these code sets are a bit more up-to-date than the printed code sheets that are shipped with the remote.....I've notice quite a few more codes that were added there. Maybe they have a new code for your device....it's worth a shot.

On a different note.......anyone know why a sony remote can't send a "tray open/close" signal to a sony dvd player? I've got the RM-AX4000 and it works great, but I can't open/close the tray on my NC85H dvd changer. I've tried both the sony preset and physically programming/teaching the open/close button command and neither work.

I had trouble with this on both my DVD and video players, then found that it's simply a case of holding the eject button. After a slight pause you get a second beep (if you've got key sounds turned on) then the eject command is sent.

Hope that helps.
