Martin Logan Dynamo vs HSU STF2

Any expereinces with ML dynamo? This is available at costco($450). If money is not a concern, which one do you guys recommend. Specs look the same except the design (sealed).

I read this one on ML website.

Although ports are a convenient and cost-effective way of increasing low-frequency output, they rely on resonant energy in a way that impairs bass quality. A good sealed system will exhibit less transient-blurring group delay while maintaining smooth, consistent response regardless of output level or voice-coil temperature. Listen carefully to the sound of a bass drum, and you'll hear the difference.

Is it true?

This is just my opinion... YMMV... but I do think that on the whole sealed subs (acoustic suspension) are cleaner and tighter, and are therefore better for music reinforcement. They seem to be "faster" -- at least they keep up with my planar magnetic speakers better -- and are more pitch accurate.

However, for most movies, where lots of slam, bam, boom, shaking, rattling, and otherwise just making very loud sounds such as car crashes and explosions, then a ported or slot loaded or passive radiator sub will very often give you higher SPL's and lower frequencies for less money.

Personally, I like the accuracy of the sealed subs -- such as those from ACI, Onyx, Velodyne, Vandersteen, and Martin Logan (to name a few)... but that's my preference, not necessarily everyone's.

It's final guys..I just bought the sub also.

1. Onkyo 602
2. Hsu VT12
3. Martin Logan Dynamo.

Funny, because a lot of their speakers are ported

which ones are you referring to? i own ml speakers and they are not ported. they use electrostatic panels and their woofers are sealed. ???

Did you see this in a CostCo warehouse, or on the website? Curious if I need to make a special trip to the local CostCo

It's only online. I can return that to any warehouse though.

I checked on the costco website recently as well and you are right, they aren't there, but the OP on this was from more than six months ago, so they probably don't carry them anymore?

Actually it's two different speakers. The Mosaics are ported as are the Montage. The Claritys, Vistas, and Vantage are all bass reflex, in other words, ported.

So that makes seven models that are ported.

I would love to know more about the ML Dynamo, if we can get this thread back on track. Costo policies, ported ML speakers, and font colors while absolutely fascinating don't tell any anything about the topic at hand.

Does anyone have any good first hand knowledge to share on the ML Dynamo?

Here is the test result of Dynamo by Tom Nousaine of S&V,

bass limit is 78db at 25Hz, average spl is 95 db from 25-62Hz

Same test for STF-1, bass limit is 75 at 20hz, average spl is 101db from 25-62Hz.

Output from One STF-1 is more than TWO of Dynamo. According to Hsu, output from one STF-2 is more that two of STF-1.
