Philips Q50 question

Does the Q50 have an internal fan to cool it? I've been having trouble with some DVD's freezing up recently. When I take the DVD out it is pretty warm to the touch. Is this normal?

Sorry no one has answered. I have a q50 and before I updated the firmware it
ran hot. DVD disc were very warm. Since I upgraded to the latest firmware which I believe was 4.15i I had pauses and lock ups. I still have the player hooked up to my 34" Panasonic and my Oppo on my Toshiba. I am waiting till this format thing settles out. Check your firmware and it is not 4.15i do a forum search and download the file and burn it on Nero as a iso file in mod 1. Hope that helps. I have a second player on ebay that I am selling with the latest firmware. If you are interested in it. It works perfectly.

The Q50 does not have an internal fan and it runs hot. I have it for 4.5 years and I am very happy with it.

Go to the menu and stay on the far right side. Scroll down to the last icon and fat arrow right to you see smart power and go right and you should see your firmware version. Your Q50 is a very nice player with a very sharp picture. Do not be fooled that the new upconverting players are going to give you a better Picture. I have tried many including the Oppo. My q50 gives me the best PQ on my 34" Panasonic and my Oppo for my Toshiba 36". Results vary with player and display.

Hi Newbie Here!

I am looking for firmware 4.15i for my Q50 (051) DVD player. I just bought it on ebay and it only has version 4.13f, so is very out of date, and I get the characteristic freezing, which will hopefully be sorted with a firmware update.

However I tried searching these forums (as indicated above) and found no links to the firmware. I have also trawled google for days and no joy, and opened a support question with Philips (they say it is too old and they can't give me the firmware!)

If anyone knows of a link or could email/upload it somewhere for me I'd be really grateful. I am in the UK if it makes any difference.

Thanks

Mike

ps... I wasn't sure on the etiquette of this group, whether I should have opened a new thread, or dug up this old one. Apologies if I did the wrong thing!
