My plan is right now to pick it up this evening that is if we do not have one of those afternoon and evening thunderstorms that we have had every day this week. After I have used it for a few days I will post what I think about it. I just wish that I could see it hooked up and running in the store instead of sitting in the center isle with no power or signal at all. Guess I will just have to wait until I get it home to see what its picture looks like. |

yes, i agree with you. panasonic used to provide jvc with there tubes. panasonic no longer make crt tubes. Philips is the world largest manufature of crt tubes. they sell their tubes to many other brands. I believe is a philips tube in there. jvc recently admitted of having quality issues with there products.

Matsushita waves goodbye to cathode ray tubes
Fat panels win By INQUIRER staff: Thursday 27 July 2006, 08:17 MATSUSHITA PANASONIC said it is shutting its Malaysian factory making CRT (cathode ray tube) displays and will liquidate the joint venture it has their with Toshiba. The factory makes 21-inch to 32-inch CRTs for the Japanese and North American markets. The reason, according to Matsushita, is a decline in demand for CRTs, intensified price competition and increasing sales of flat panel TVs. Figures for the JV show it made a net loss of RM969,422 in the financial year to March 2006. If it is not quite the end of an era, it is the middle of the beginning of the end of an era. It seems few want those cathode rays flying around the living room any more. µ |

WOW I can't believe the price, $526. That is $200 below suggested retail for that set. I was very surprised when I read here that WM was even selling this set because I thought it was too "high end" for them. They must have negotiated one killer of a deal with JVC. I called one of our local WM stores last week to see if they had it and the guy I spoke with said , "we only have RCA".?? I will probably have to go there myself at some point to see if they are in.
Mavrick did they have the 787 (black) model also or just the 777? |

I've had the JVC AV-30W585 for almost two years. I paid $750. for it at a retailer that typically charges 10% below MSRP. The Walmart price for the #777 seems too low, but a large-purchase deal might make it possible. According to the specs, my model is 2.8 lbs. heavier than the #777 and it doesn't have a digital tuner. I chose it because it gave the best picture of any HD set I saw and also did very well with SD programs. Its picture is sharp and has excellent colors, but it has a gentle, eye-friendly picture. It doesn't have a brilliant screen that overpowers your senses, but it's one you can watch for hours without fatigue.
The exact number of scanning lines in its display is still a mystery to me. It is advertized as having a 1080i scan and the manual confirms this. Its description indicates that all inputs are scaled up to 1080i. However, when I contacted JVC's technical dept. and asked for some complete specs about its screen, they replied that I was mistaken about the 1080i scan and said that it actually uses a 720p display. What do you make of that? Looking at the wonderful image it gives, especially on fast-moving sports and flying birds, I wouldn't be surprised if it really does use 720p. All these companies are very secretive and often ambiguous about such details and this seems to be an example of that.
