I had the same problem buddy. I really dont see spending $200+ on a stand made of plastic and glass. Glass shelves = a PITA to keep clean (unless you live in a dust free clean room). I went to every furniture store and electronics store in my area. If something looked nice, it usually could not hold the weight of this beast. I finally went to IKEA and they have a newer line of furniture called "Markor" (2 dots over the "o"). They make 2 TV stands/entertainment center type things that are 100% solid wood and come in a dark black/brown stain (which I bought) or a lighter brown "antique" stain. Both will hold 220lbs on top. I went for the one with the 2 glass inset doors and open center, adjustable shelves. This thing has enough room for all your AV stuff, DVD, CD's....etc. I even got the matching coffee table so my living room hasne ever looked better. They have bookshelves, diner tables, etc all in this style if you want to go with something you could match up later.
EDIT: well maybe I should have read your post better first, seems you want something modern. This is a bit more old fashion, but check it out anyway. |

That is the stand that I have. My main concerns when looking were, it has to be modern and durable. Well this stand can hold 300lbs, so me placing my 34XBR970 on it was worry free. Also, the stance is very sleek and awesome looking. If you ask me, the picture doesn't do it justice, so hopefully your local Circuit City has one on the floor that you can see for yourself. Hope that helps.

This is the one I bought for my XBR970. Now normally (a) I wouldn't have gotten something glass and (b) I would never have spent that kind of money...
...but (a) it was the only one at the store I knew could hold up to 260 lbs and (b) I'm lazy and made the store deliver it along with the TV. Meh, I got them to drop the price on the TV $200 so I thought I could spend a little more on the stand: http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...cemldffidfki.0 |
