Remote suggestions

Hello,

Looking for a good universal remote to controll a Directv H20 receiver, Yamaha receiver, and Sony TV. Must have hard buttons, back lit, and cost less than $100. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something that the wife can use to turn on/off components, use the DTV box, and adjust volume on the receiver at night without using 4 letter words.

Thanks,
Charlie

Look for sales on the Harmony 880, it can be found for close to $100.

If you aren't willing to shop around and look for deals, take a look at the Harmony 628, which costs about $50.

You can download high-res pics of all the Harmony remotes at this site.

With the Harmony 880 and 720 models, you can put channels on the LCD screen for quick and intuitive channel changing.

I dont think you can beat any of the Harmony's for general all around compatibility for different equipment. I have the harmony 360 xbox which is the same as the 520 but with more hard buttons. I dont have a xbox, but I like being able to program all the xtra buttons it has. I just completed my 7th activity programming a Pioneer XM INNO sat radio. Usually there are a few commands that dont show up in the Harmony database but its no problem to learn those missing commands. I really don't know what I'd do without it now. Its seems to be a permanent part of my arm now

I have the same remote and I have been having a little trouble with programming the Inno. I have to place it in device mode to get the buttons I normally need so as XM/enter. In the activity mode I am able to have the menu change but I haven't found the button for enter. Do you have any advice. This was the only thread from my search that referred to the Inno.

On the web setup, select "Customize" for the activity in question, then "Change behaviour of buttons". You will now get a screen where you can assign any command to any button you want, and learn missing commands if required.

Thanks for the tip. I spent a little time tweaking the setup and everything seems to be working well.

Does the 880 and 720 work with the new Direct TV HD/DVR box? Or is there a different Hamrony that would be better? Thanks.

Will any of the harmony's work with the DISH DVR?

Does any one know if the harmony remotes will work with the Dual Tuner DISH HD-DVR? -- It would need to support both the RF and IR for that particular receiver.

No universal remote can directly control an RF device(apart from Z-Wave, which the DVR wouldn't have). If the DVR can be configured to work on IR, then any Harmony(or just about any other universal remote) will control it.

I have the dish vip622 and use Harmony's 550 to control my HDTV and components in my family room and just use the dish TV2 remote for my upstairs TVs. No problem. Why do you think you need an RF remote with the 622 or 211?

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I thought I needed an RF remote for the Vip622 to control both receivers, one to act as "Remote 1" and one to work as "Remote 2" -- one through RF and one with out. I have a Mitsu Rear Projection, and I like to use pop and would like to control both outputs of the receiver with one remote.

Is this possible with this Logitech remote, or even the 550?

Thanks,
Nathan

Can I get some more feed back on the harmony remote for the 360? My sony (dont know what the mod. # is but its the one as big as a computer, rectangular shape. I have a 360, and was thinking this may be a good replacement. Want it to control tv, D* reciever, lights, a/v reciever, sirius, along with some macros. The way I had the sony now, was to hit one buttion and it would perform a set of functions. Ie, hit #1 to watch something on satellite, #2 to watch a dvd...
Anyones feedback would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!
Joe
