Yamaha with bose

I just recently purchased a Yamaha 5990 receiver from a retailer in canada and they threw in the bose am-10 III set. by threw in i mean i got them free, but the problem is that they were missing the cables needed to set them up (the ones that normally come in the box). i understand that these speakers will not bring out the best out of the receiver but none the less i got them free and would like to use them for a little while till i can save up some money to buy a nice set of speakers. so first i'm wondering if anyone knows of where i could get replacement cables for the bose system, then i was wondering if someone could get me some suggestions on how to set them up so they sound as good as they could.

i'm not sure if this is were i should be posting this, this seems like the right area.

I say use the speakers but not the sub. That way you can just hook up the speakers like normal speakers. Find a decent sub and hook it up directly to the receiver. As far as setting them up that all depends on the room. The easiest way will be to use the optimizer mic. It will calibrate your receiver to the position of your speakers and subwoofer.

Bose interconnect cables are proprietary design.

Best best is www.bose.com for replacement.

Do not use the cubes without the bass module. They are designed to use the crossover in the bass module and connection(s) otherwise will result in poor sound and possibly damage to the cubes.

The sound will be poor without the sub? Gee, I though they sounded poor with the sub. I'd hate to hear them without.

The sooner you can get rid of the Bose the better. Free is somewhat more than what they are actually worth.

Noo. I am fairly certain you must go through the "bass module", as the 'sub' has crossovers in it to protect the samll satellite speakers which cannot handle LF frequency content basically at all. You would not want to connect the satellite speakers directly to a receiver.

As free speakers it should work fine because who can beat free?

Recently got a great Boxing Day sale on the Bose AC10 speakers and the Yamaha 5990 receiver. Going through the connections, and not sure which would be a better setup for the speakers. I have a 13' wide x 30' long room. The couch is about 10' away from the front TV / Speakers, with 12' feet from the rear speakers.

With that... should I connect my rear speakers to the "Surround/Zone 2(3)" section or to the "Surround Back"? I don't find that I have enough separation from front to back during movies with a fly-by.

I haven't spent a lot of time with adjusting the distance and volume of the back speakers yet as they aren't mounted, and when I ran the YPAO, I received an error message about how I had the surround hooked up. I can't remember exactly how it was, but I believe the message was about "needing Surround before Rear Surround" or something like that.

Any Suggestions?
