Can someone walk me through this???? I just downloaded Nero 7, and cant make any sense of it!!!! I also have Windows Media. I made two attempts to burn, with no luck!!!! Im out of disks so I will pick up some more tomorrow. If someone can post a step by step list of how to this it would be great. My only knowledge of this stuff is ripping and burning audio CD....
Thanks!

we need details on this, here is my take:

all the CD's being sent are for the DTS Fix, very very soon will be the NR fix(according to Samsung), I am guessing this website update is the DTS Fix, and then soon the NR Cd's will start being sent and that download will be put up

someone call Samsung tech. and confirm what the website download is for? we will all owe you one

A friend downloaded this and said it was a 8mb file. Since the Toshiba firmware updates are usually in the 40-60mb range, I'd figure this can't be the big PQ/BD-J fix. It has to be the DTS fix.

I no longer own a Sammy, since I've exchanged it for the Panny, and my friend doesn't have any DTS BDs. Can someone try a Lionsgate or Paramount title to see?

Gary - Just got off the phone with CS. All they would say is it is for "Disc Compatability". lol

I just completed the update process, tried all of the menu options and tested a SD-DVD with DTS and DD 5.1.

The update took a total of 11-1/2 minutes.

Here is the sequence and the messages displayed:

1. Powered up the Samsung and ejected the empty tray.

2. Inserted the CD-ROM with the burned ISO image.

3. On-screen message #1: "Verifying System F/W"
Front panel message: "No DISC"

4. On-screen message #2: "Do you want to update System F/W?
PSD: 60605.1 --> 61011.1
DMN: 60526.1 --> 60929.1
LDR: 529F"

"Yes" and "No" radio buttons with Yes outlined in yellow.

5. I used remote to select "Yes"

6. On-screen message #3: "Main F/W Update Now Processing. Please do not turn off the power."
Front panel message: "CD-UP"

7. On-screen message #4: "Sub F/W Update Now Processing. Please do not turn off the power."
Front panel message: "CD-UP"

8. After 11-1/2 minutes, the disc automatically ejected and the power automatically turned off.

***************

These are the changes I've noted so far. Note that I have not played a BD yet.

1. Test tones work properly now (but only for PCM; they don't work at all for Bitstream).

2. I get DD 5.1, DTS, and PCM output.

#1 The test tones shouldnt work for bitstream, so thats good!!!

#2 Are you saying the Samsung now decodes those audio codecs(Dolby Digital, DTS) and can be output through the analogs???

This is the fix I'm looking for. Total Recall will be the first disc I throw in after I do the upgrade.

Hmmmmm The manual says it wont decode, but I recall someone(Chad or Michael) saying it will decode as long as its on a BD disk. Try a standard DVD and see if it will decode anything on that.
This was a big complaint for me since I couldnt use Avia to calibrate my speakers properly for analog out and just stuck to good ole optical out.

Shamus - Bingo!! No go on the DTS from an SD/DVD. Never thought to try it, I always used the optical for SD/DVD. Looks like it plays DD on SD/DVD, but only 2 channel? They both work as 5.1 with a BD, though! Anyhow, going to upgrade now, will report back any new findings.

Ok great... Im not going crazy!!! Please check that right away cause that would be huge if it can now decode it. I cant wait to try this uncompressed PCM now that I will be able to calibrate my speakers!!!
Thanks and let me know!!!

Gary, I called also today and it seems it wont fix the DNR chip. The only thing I could get out of them is it fixes "compatibility" issues... whatever that might be??

The update reverts to setup defaults, need to check all settings to see if they are correct for your particular needs! DTS stutter gone, picture quality seems the same to me. It is a 52.7MB file, so must have had more fixes than just the DTS problem.

Keep in mind that Toshiba does their firmwares differently. With the way the Toshiba was designed, each firmware update entirely replaces the previous one, even though most files are unchanged. Samsung may simply include the patches or changed files.

The PQ "fix" will probably take the form of changed settings for the Genesis chip, which would only require a few bytes.

Some people had problems with their analog outs being reversed.. I believe it was addressed in an earlier firmware that was never posted. Thats probably fixed too.

Just burned my CD and will update my Sammy later today. I can confirm it is 52MB in size.

I would also like to know the answer to Garys question, does this update replace the hour glass ?

Thanks!
