Official Westinghouse LVM-W4207 Thread
Best Buy stores should soon have this new model up on display & for sale.

I worked for Best Buy for a very short time this year (thankfully, I'm not there anymore; I'm a poor college student but I couldn't stand that place) and I remember seeing only 1 42w2 in the store - and that was to show off the new HD-DVD players they received. Best Buy must really not like the price bubble bursting 1080p Westinghouse monitors to be alongside their other brands, because as soon as the first 1080p Samsungs started appearing, I never saw another 1080p Westinghouse again... I suppose they would just have you believe that it always costs more than $2500 to get a 1080p display...so needless to say I'm not surprised that they wanted a 720p model rather than a 1080p one. Oh, I recommend avoiding Best Buy whenever you can  |

Off Topic ?
I have been waiting for the 42 westy (I have a 32 inch Sammy-LCD) - I have always been a CRT man and Sammy is my first LCD (I purchased it for HD but it is a TV since it has a Tuner
I learned that the sammy is maxed at " 60Hz" Since all my 21-25 inch monitors go much higher I wanted to know if all LCD are at this level or can I get a monitor LCD and get 85 or higher - there is no info on westinghouse sight and they have not answered my email   Thanks for any info Starship Warrior |

New guy and i need ssome help,
I just saw the W4207 monitor at bestbuy, this forum is the only place that even seems to know it exists, not even the westinghouse site lists it except in some obscure compatiblilty chart for one of their wall mounts. My question, is it 1080 or 720, i could have sworn the little label sticker said it was 1080? The price was $1499 and i REALLY want one BUT it was the ONLY LCD they had hooked up to a dedicated DVD player and it looked Horrible. It wasn't one of those center of an isle setups showing off Blu ray either it was on the wall next to everything else and it had this crappy little dvd player shoved behind it constantly replaying some movie previews. It was connect to componant video 1 input. Is this the way a regular dvd player would play a movie on this thing? Any ideas about the SD quality as that is what i am most interested in because i'm sure a DVD movie or game system should be better than what i saw. It seemed like all the lower price LCD's were playing something different and were purposely made to look bad while all the twice as expensive sets were showing off an HD football game. I would really appreciate any info on this set and opinions as to what i should be looking at. I will be seated about 6.5-7ft away and am mainly concerned about SD quality(because i'm assuming regular DVD's should still look prety good). Would the w37w series or w42w series be better suited. Thank you for any help. |

I have to agree with this guy naser. I know that bb and places like that do nothing to their sets. They just take them out the box and hook up a feed. But at least you can see what they look like out the box and what I can assume what the manufacturer considers "appealing" or "eye-catching". The westy's I've seen can not be called either. They seems to have a "washed out" look with some type of orange cast over the picture. I mean they REALLY look bad. Is there some light people can shed on this for those of us not in the know.

Does anyone have confirmation on this sets specifications? I would think everyone would be talking about it since it is in some stores now. If you saw a box, what was on the outside? Westinghouse really puts their specs in huge letters on the side of their boxes so it shoud be really clear. Thanks so much!

I'll go to my bb today and see if they have them. If someone doesn't beat me to it (late afternoon), I'll post my findings.
To reply to totalownership and larry7995, I'll just say this. BB seems to show some serious disrespect towards Westinghouse. In the other massive Westinghouse threads, I've seen several posts talking about how bad bb employees trashtalk these tv's. In my experience, 3 different employees and a manager spent some serious energy trying to dissuade me from purchasing the 42w2 over the past few weeks. I had a pretty high level of satisfaction when they had a hard time finding a store with any instock. I believe my exact quote was "Sounds to me like an awful lot of consumers know something that you don't about Westinghouse....." I own a 32w6 for my gaming center, and the 42w2 for my downstairs living room. I absolutely love these tv's. The picture quality is off the charts for the price point. I have never seen a Westinghouse hooked up to a decent feed at a bb, and I have never had an employee *not* try to talk me out of buying a Westinghouse. I am a *very* happy consumer and I will continue to support the company. |

I actually had a good experience at bb with Westinghouse. It was a guy in a Magnolia shirt, but he definitely agreed with me that it was a great deal. Unfortunately this was right when they stopped having the old version so they only had the floor model. He tried to track down a new one at other stores, but they were all out.

trip to Best Buy
I made a trip to my local Best Buy to see this TV but they didn't have it out. But interestingly they are closing out the 1080p version at a pretty good clearance price. So it looks like they are going to be replacing the 1080p Westy with this one. The question is: Jump on the 1080p or get the W4207? The W4207 was better contract and viewing angle specs but of course isn't 1080p.

I just purchased a W4207 on Friday nite (it was actually a replacement of my 37w2 that had a manuf defect) at Best Buy. After playing around (all weekend I might add) with the video settings, I can honestly say that the picture quality is beautiful. Crystal clear (especially in HD). I don't have the numbers with me, but I'd be happy to publish the settings on the forum tomorrow (I even compared my choices with the THX optimizer and it just about matched). In HD, especially Discovery HD, it is like looking through a pane of glass - like I'm really there. VERY impressive.
According to the manual, the TV is 1366 X 768, but it supports all HD formats up to 1080i. It is not 1080p. There are two features of this TV that I really like that I have not seen b4. 1. Autosource: It is a feature where the TV recognizes what unit you've turned on. For ex., if I turn on my HDTV box, HDMI is automatically selected and it also automatically chooses the best screen format (between FILL & STANDARD). 2. Independent settings: You can choose completely different video/audio settings for HDMI, SVideo, YBR, etc. It is so important b/c my HD settings are NOT good for watching SD. So all in all, 2 thumbs up. VERY happy so far with this TV. |

OH... I forgot to mention - do NOT trust BEST BUY to adjust the settings to even CLOSE to its optimum level. My store had it connected to a stand-alone DVD player with old composite video/audio (yellow, red, white). VERY deceiving. Ask the rep to conect it to HD and adjust the settings. You'll see how great the picture is.

I was in Best Buy yesterday twice picking up two westy 47", each time with limited time available.
I did not even check for this new model as they had my 47" units waiting at the door. Has it been confirmed that the model number is LVM-W4207 and not LVM-42W07 as the thread title reads? If my title is incorrect, I will update it. |

I saw this model today at my BB and it looked pretty good. Not the best of course, but it was far better than the Sharp they had sitting under it (I don't remember the model number, but it was the same size. They had a rock concert playing. It was very pixalated around the bottom logo and you could see it struggling to keep up when the musicians would jump around). The only brands that really outshined it were a couple of the Sonys, Sammys and Pioneers. But they were double and triple the price! If I have the money on black friday I will definitely pick this up.

I noticed the black friday price (not going to mention it here but feel free to Google) for this thing an am getting pretty interested. I'm not really at a point right now where I want to invest in a really nice 1080p set and I just need something that's decent enough to use in an apartment while my wife finishes graduate school.
Since it has a 768 line native resolution, that means 100% of what you watch is scaled (unless you use it as a PC monitor I guess) so I'm curious as to owner's impressions on how it looks? I'm an avid videogamer with lots of older consoles as well as newer ones so I would be watching both 16:9 and 4:3 content on it, and I would be using at least the s-video and component inputs (possibly HDMI if I replace my DVD player with an OPPO). Can anyone give any feedback on using this set with those inputs and how things look? I'm not really curious about in-store experiences, I can go to a store, and stores always set things up terribly. I'm wondering about you AVS guys, who have gotten this thing home and hooked it up and maybe even run AVIA or something. What do you think? Inquiring minds want to know! |
