DIY Marquee/Readerboard

I've spent the last few days looking into building a marquee with replacable letters. I would like to basically create this type of a look without it being a light box.

I'm not worried about all of the decorative stuff (the fake neon, the name) I can handle that , but I really need to create the letter board with chaser lights. I've found plenty of places that sell the letters, but I can't seem to figure out where to buy the track to slide the letters into.

If anyone has built a marquee themselves, or knows anything about where to get materials to make this it would really help out a lot.

Thanks
Brian

Hey Brian,

Last year I saw a DIY marquee on this site that used tileboard holder as the letter track. It's available at HD and Lowes. I found it on the end cap near the shower supplies last time I looked. Just trim to size and glue to your backerboard.

There are some on this page:

http://www.impact-sign-letters.com/P...px#Tracks_Accs

Couldn't get your link to open.

I'm doing a marquee with halo lit foam letters (at least that's the plan) and have been doing a lot of looking for metal laminate gator foam letters 10 inch tall. Seems the best price is about $30 a pop and I need 14 letters. If you come across anything let me know.

Thats what I've been looking for thanks. I'll keep you posted if I come across any letters like that.

Now I've gotta find some white plastic to use as the backplate. I'm thinking about turning it into a lightbox with a flourescent behind. What do you think?

Yup you need some frosted plexi.

Flourescent works, If seen some people use rope light, string of christmas lights.

I've been playing around with some LED's.

Got this on Google

I see now that you tried to post an eel bay link. The mods here have an automatic block.

You might want to try doing something like what I did for my mylar sign. I just attache strips to the font of the sign with washers in between them and the back.

check out the sign in my sig for an illustration and pictures.

Hey Big, this is where I ordered my "milky white" diffusers from for my poster boxes. I just came across this while searching for mylar info. Thats what I plan on next. The diffusers should be here this week (fingers crossed).

Sri, just saw your post, I think you already found the info you wanted in my thread, but for clarification for other viewing this thread, I ordered it from www.professionalplastics.com, the same place that BIG mentioned in an earlier post in this thread.
