How crazy do you honestly think CES will be?
I, personally, am tempering my level of hope for the show and imagining that it will actually be pretty conservative. Seems like a lot of people are claming that it will be "teh megaton!" - but I don't know.
It's hard for me to see much more happening besides the announcement of possibly 1 or 2 new players and maybe the showing of a small handful of new titles from the studios that won't necessarily be "must-haves". And all revealed will be that which is pretty much expected or possibly even leaked before the show. How big are the announcements typically at the show? What do you guess or specifically expect from this one? Can any insiders hint at how major their company's presence will be, what specific level of announcement to expect? I just want to limit my losses at the blackjack tables.
CES is far more than HD. In regards to the HD shiny disc format war: I expect this year there will be a lot of CE announcements for HD DVD and Blu-ray players. That seems to be mind-blowing in your listing of choices. I may not caragorize it that way, but I think there will multiple hardware announcements as well as cheaper chinese HD DVD players and maybe some dual - format player announcements if the PS3 falters. |

Hopefully by this weekend I'll have my second theater room set up with a XA1, Panasonic BD10 connected to the VP50 scaler feed to my new JVC HD10K 1080p/24 Hz front projector. I will have all sources properly calibrated and set up and do a side by side comparison of several of the same titles in BD and HD DVD. I need more time to get everything set up and tested. -Robert |

I'm thinking the top two categories. If you're not excited by CE equipment at CES, then you probably won't care too much for this thread.
Studios announcements, hopefully. I don't agree with the above posts that BR sales will peak if no studios announce neutrality. I'm certain that hybrid players will be announced. In that vein, perhaps 25% of HD DVD folks will decide to wait for a hybrid player, and most of the rest may dig their heels in. Some will pick up a cheaper BR player like a PS3. But there won't be a wholesale rush to BR standalone players with Hybrid players coming to market. I expect a lot of projector and AVR action also.

Robert, Love to hear about your results! Maybe best to start a new thread. When/where is the HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray session taking place at CES??? |

I can't wait to see what Denon has up their sleeves. Main thing keeping me back from a 4306 right now...
There will be no break in the studio alignment in the format war. I think Sony will announce their 2G players, including a $500-600 model, both using the lense system they have in the PS3 (for CD/DVD/BD read). Both will be "Full 1080P" with HDMI 1.3 though 24fps will be exclusive to the higher end model. Analog outputs on at least the higher end. I'm betting there are some more 24fps (or 120) displays from multiple vendors. 24p becomes mainstream (moreso than usual) for the projector crowd. I voted: Slightly above-average. Nothing big but a lot of cool little announcements, for ex.

Well, it's starting to shape up in the "mind-blowing" category now!
We've got Universal players, more CE vendors for HD DVD to be announced, potentially a new Xbox SPU, and "possibly" more studio support. Not to mention some nifty new display devices to see...
