Coaster (Director or Showtime)

Studio's out. My media room isn't wide enough to fit those (I want a row of 3).
My room is about 162 inches wide. The Director's are 105"L and would give me almost 30 inch walkway on either side. The Showtime's are 94"L and would give me an additional 4 inches on either side, making them a tad more comfortable fit.

I've made tons of calls, including to coaster, and can't find anyone in Houston that carries any of these in stock, so try before I buy is out.

The Showtimes look like they'd fit better, but the Director's look like they feel more comfortable.

So my question is - which seats really ARE more comfortable? I can live with a decreased walkway if the Director's are better seats, but if they're practically identical, I'd just as soon get the showtime (and I prefer the showtime Taupe Color anyway).

help!

I've been reading more reviews on this forum.

If the Studios are really more comfortable, I could probably make those work. They would give me just over a 2 foot walkway but that's certainly doable.

This ain't an easy decision!

bqmeister,

either series will fit, as long you have at least 2 feet of walking space you will be all set. More is better but 2ft is the minimum.

this should help you in making your decision. The Showtimes are a slightly firmer seats overall, many prefer the firmer feel. The Studios are very balanced meaning they have the support and cushiness factor built in which appeals to the majority of members in the "comfortable" department. The Directors are the softest/cushiest of the series. So if you like the sink in feeling when you sit in a chair (and you like brown leather) than the Directors are an excellent choice.

This should help make your decision easier and the above is the "general" consensus in terms of feedback and user reviews.

I don't think I want the sinking feeling.
that rules out the director series.

I sent an email to you regarding the powerbuy. I won't clutter this thread with that, but will post in that thread now.

thanks.

Looking at prices, the berklines with the powerbuy ARE a great price, but I think I'm gonna stick with the coasters.

My wife likes the Studios, and with those I'll still have 2 feet on either side, so it looks like my quest is over.

I sat in the Showtimes and Studios. The Showtimes are firmer and the arms are very low which is kinda uncomfortable. The Studios are very nice.

My pleasure. I'm picking the Studio hands down. If only I could fit four across though <sigh>. I sat in 10 different Berkline models tonight. They all range in comfort but had one thing in common - a giant black hole that sucks in your butt when you recline. It's was miserable and there was no way to avoid it. I can't believe their success with this design flaw. I got a big a$$ too!

I sat in the studios tonight. Actually went to the store to buy them (local Houston store has them on sale now for $949 - in stock and on display)

I didn't really like them that much, but found a better set (Coaster - model # 8973, not sure which ones yet) for $1199 in black leather. Much more comfortable for my tastes. Finally after months of searching, purchased a set.

Hmm, you sat in the studios and didn't like them? It seems like only the studios and showtimes have been offered in black leather, so I am interested to know what you bought.

Buying seats is hard when you can't sit in them.

I'm not getting them delivered for a few weeks since my theater isn't completely done yet (almost).

But I will go back to the store this week (maybe today) with my camera. I"ll post pics of the exact set I bought.

And these were only available in black or or brown leather match. They were roughly 105 inches wide, which leads me to think they were director's, but I don't remember if the arm rests looked like directors. the model # on them was 8973, which I've been unable to find.

The reason I didn't like the studios was because in a non-reclined position, I felt like I was sitting too far back (reclined too much with no recline). But hey, it worked. The store placed an add for $949 and got me to spend $250 more than I planned.

I was really nice to be able to sit in them before buying, especially since I was prepared to buy studios online.

Don't know what an 8973 is. All of their #'s are 7xxx. Of course mine were called Aspens or Sante Fe (don't remember which) - the store I bought them from has Coaster custom make them.

That's what I thought. When I do take a pic, i'll take a pic of the tag as well.

The store I bought them from does sell their own branded theater seating as well, but I looked at the tag and there were tagged from coaster.

I'm looking to get these:

http://www.hometheaterseatsplus.com/...ion-black.html

Has anyone purchased from this company? Also, some of the chairs I have sit in, make me feel like I'm going to slide out of the chair. Slick leather? This is usually when I slouch down. Do the studio Item# 7563 do that? Also with some chairs the recliner goes back down with the weight of my legs and shoes. I'm around 200 lbs so hopefully someone can comment and help me decide on these chairs. I also like these too:
http://www.hometheaterseatsplus.com/...sectional.html
I like the softer cushy and non slick (slide off the seat) leather.

Thanks in advance.

Darylo,
Besides the fact that the company is shady, the price is lousy. One of our forum members Serge has them for cheaper and he's honest...
http://htauthority.com/index_files/S...tionDetail.htm

From my recollection of the Paramount's (your last link) they need a ton on space from the wall to recline.

As far as your leather question, leather IS slick. I don't get that feeling in mine and I'm sure with a few good conditionings they'd get softer and less slippery.

Here's a pic of mine - the tag says Coaster / Premier Leather. Also, <cough> still looking for someone to go in with on another set. Anyone need two? Row of three row and a row of two?

Savedsol,

So have you sat in these then? I'm looking for a row of 3 and a row of 2. If so what are the strengths and weaknesses? Soft or hard?

I bought the Showtime because I felt the Studio lacked head support. When reclined in the Studio there was nothing supporting my neck, in the Showtime the seat goes right up to the back of my head and supports it nicely. I also found the Showtime more comfortable overall.

Savedsol,

I was talking about yours. Showtimes are a little firmer than the studios? I sat in some Berkline 090 and love them except for the price.

Threecard, call coaster. They may be able to give you a list of dealers in your area (although the place I ended up buying from, coaster didn't know they carried them).

or

customercare@coastercompany.com

I'm gonna email them. I verified the sticker today at a different store location, and my coasters are 8973. Still no clue what they line they are, but they are comfortable.
The arms look like showtime, but they're 105 inches wide, which I believe is normally the directors.

I emailed them last night. Got a generated response pretty quickly:

"Thank you for your inquiry, we will answer your email within 2 business days.

Customer Care
Coaster Company

++ This message is automatically generated , please do not reply to this
++ message as it will not be read/receievd/answered."

Worked for me. Hopefully they will respond and I'll learn more about the 8973's

Mine are like the Studios in these regards: more cushion, deeper seating (the arms in the Showtimes are like 2" above the seat itself which is annoying). They are like the Showtimes in their total width* and seatback height. The Studios have a low seatback height. The ones I have have the tall back but a whole lot more padding than the Showtime.

I bought them here. You don't have a location listed but maybe they have one near you. http://www.shopthegreatescape.com/stores/500.html
Still looking for that extra buyer!

*Both are 24" seating areas but the Studio is a much wider chair because of arm width.
