Best Offer for HR20 from D*?

I called D* last night and got transferred to Retention at my request. In view of the problems with the 6.3a software for the HR10 and the fact the D* HD locals in Austin do not include NBC, I want to get an HR20 and keep my HR10 (bought and paid for from D*). They told me I would have to give them the HR10 or pay $299 for the HR20 lease. I talked some more, the CSR talked to his manager, and came back with an offer of a $100 rebate on the HR20, bringing the price down to $199. Have others who have worked with Retention lately been able to get a lower price?

Thanks,
David

I actually just spoke to someone in retention and I got it for $150 + tax - so 50% off.

They billed me for the $299 but immediately refunded the 50%. Also since I didn't currently have HD they are also giving me 4 months of the HD package for free. Oh and they are also coming out to install the new dish for MPEG4.

My friend was able to talk them out of HR20 at no cost. The best I can do is $300 up front minus a $150 credit to my DirecTV account as well as a $10 credit for 12 months. They are also throwing in HBO & Showtime for $2 for 6 months. Is this a good deal or should I push them harder? I really don't want to drop $300 on this receiver alhough the credits seem more than fair.

I had a very similar experience tonight when I called them. I started by talking to the CSR that answered the phone and could tell right away that I wasn't gaining ground so I asked to be transferred to the retention department. I got a rep named William who was quite nice and willing to deal with me. I explained that I was considering moving over to either cable or that "other" satellite provider. I could tell that initially he was feeling me out to see just how much he had to offer. I made it clear that I was quite ready to move to another service unless he could convince me to stay. He came up with a very similar offer to what others have received. My deal was as follows:
  • $200 off on the HR20 box
  • $10 a month off of my bill for 12 months
  • 4 months free HD service
  • HBO and Showtime for $2 a month for six months
  • Free 5LNB dish
  • Free installation (what there is of it - basically just install the dish)
  • Free multiswitch (good thing, mine is starting to malfunction)
Not bad. I've been a loyal subscriber for 8 years and this will keep me here for many more. D*'s HD content is a bit light just now but that will change next year with the launch of 2 new satellites.

Was able to get it for free myself, since I was a customer before I switched from Dish to Directv for quite a long time.

Did you have to pay anything up front? They won't budge on the $300 for me but are willing to offset some of the cost in credits to my DirecTV account.

Talked to retention department. I am a current HD subscriber with 1 year left on my contract (I think that matters). Was offered $299 with $150 in credits and $5 off bill for 6 months.

He said he would split it into 3 payments of $99 to be added to my bill. Supposedly the credit would take care of the first one and a half of these payments.

I'm on the waiting list now, and will try to better this deal when I am called.

I finally negotiated the HR20 down to $100 + free HD programming for 4 months and HBO & Showtime for $2 for 6 months. Not free but not a bad deal.

I got the H20 and at9 for 15 dollars total with installation a year ago, and 199 for the hr 20 last month, then got 10 dollars off a month for a year, and free HD package for 4 months....so around 50 dollars total.

I heard of those people who got it for free, but I couldn't get close, probably because I've milked them enough already. I had two recievers in my living room, one H20 (paid for shipping) and one 10-250 (free because of my NFL Sunday Ticket). I called I told them I'd like to trade both of those leased recievers. The installer came and hooked up the Hr20 and then left. I called D* and got a box sent for the H20 and just moved the 10-250 to my bedroom. I was supposed to turn back in the 10-250 as part of my deal ($99 for the HR20). But, whatever, I sold my SD Tivo in my bedroom for 85 bucks on ebay and pretty much made my money back for the reciever. That was as much as I could do. But if you work hard D* will usually give you a bunch of stuff. I got Superfan, and Showtime free for six months too.

I got the HR20, dish and install for $49. I've been a Dtv customer for 6 years though.

I do have to agree to a 2 year commitment. I have no problem with that.

I got mine for $199 with a $100 credit against the hr10 upgraded option, but talked them into letting keep my HR10. I was originally happy, BUT then I got my bill and saw that I was leasing the HR20. They didn't tell me that up-front.

My questions to you'll, are all of you leasing from D* or did they sell you the HR20 and at which price. I'm wondering is that I got a low price because it was a lease..

I believe they do not sell boxes anymore. DirecTV went lease only or lease only on new boxes earlier this year. Even if you goto a brick and mortar store and pay $299 for the HR20, that is a lease.

Thumbs up

Just called, they offered me the hr200-700s for free. They said there would be a charge for $99.96. They would split the cost over 3 months. He would waive the 2nd and 3rd payments, then credit back the first payment. Nothing out of pocket. Also throwing in 4 months of HD service. The only bad thing is they have none in stock, so I'm on the waiting list. He said it should come within a month. Also he noted the account that I can get a 2nd one for $199.99. Also I had to reup for 2 more years, not such a big deal since you can get out of the contracts for $12.50 per month of remaining service. I don't know if it helped, but I was out of contract, and told them Time Warner offered me a much better deal to switch. The guy was really nice, he even told me they were enabling the off air antenna in 2 weeks, so i can get local channels. "I live in Syracuse so they don't offer them yet." Hope this helps anyone interested in getting one.

I have four HR10-250 units and was just offered one HR20 for no charge and four months of the HD package for free. I was also told that the original plan for those with HR10-250 units, is to upgrade each unit for $99 however, since they have a shortage of units at this time they are backing away from that offer. When push comes to shove I'm sure they will work with most people, especially those of us who pay for every channel.

I just ordered my first DVR last night from Direct. It ended up costing 30 cents. I will be billed $199 split up over 3 months. I will be billed $19 activation the first month. Total with tax is $240.30. Reimbursements are as follows:

1- $10 credit for 12 months on HD package
2- $10 credit for 12 months on Total Choice
Total credits: $240.00

They also threw in Showtime for 6 months. I am assuming this is the HD showtime as well as the standard, but I forgot to ask.

My original order got canceled because the installer was too lazy to run some new wires for my other receivers - wanted to charge me $90 each. They refunded me my $300 + tax but didn't take back their $150 credit.

I re-ordered it yesterday and started by asking for the cancellation dept. Let the rep know I was not willing to pay $300 for it and they immediately knocked it down to $199. I countered saying I am not prepared to spend more then $99 and instructed the rep to go speak with a supervisor. They agreed and are charging me only $99 - but this time there are no credits involved, they are just billing my account $99. So basically $99 for this and $150 credits... They are paying me $50 to let them install this!

Includes:
5LNB Dish
HD DVR
4 Months free HD Service

Also they said that if the installer charges me anything for a *specialized* installation I can just pay it and fax them my receipt and they will credit my account for that amount. I did have to go with a 2 year commitment, but this is non issue to me since I hate the local cable company and have no intention of ever doing business with them again. Dish isn't an option since they don't offer the YES! Network for Yankees baseball games.

I just spent some quality time with D* and E* CSR's. I have both services, D* since '95 and
E* since late December. E* is offering a free HD DVR, but only to new subs. I told D* that
I wanted a free HR20 to match the E* offer and that E* is compelling due to twice
the number of national HD channels and a better HD DVR. The D* CSR's would only lower the
HR20 to $200. I called E* to see about getting the same programming as D* and two HD
DVRs and two SD receivers. They wanted $700 in receiver fees and the monthly cost
would have been a bit more $$$!!

I went back to D*, asked for customer retention and got a free HR20 and $10/mo. credit
for 12 months. E* had a chance to pickup an over $100/mo. customer and blew it. I
will get rid of E* once D* has it's expanded HD capacity.(If they don't keep blowing up
rockets.)
