Motorola 6412 III Reset help needed
Does anyone know how to reset an EP00 error (Fan problem) on a Motorola DCT6412 III? I have a box that has the EP00 error and I need to reset it before the cable company (Shaw) can make it work with HD channels. Any help might mean I don't have to garbage the box. Thanks in advance.

mine shows the same error EP00 after the reformat. I have an RCN and i can't recall the exact method but they told me over the phone to power the box off, then hit the OK button 3 times, that brought up some diagnostic menu. i forget the rest. just call tech support and ask.
Mine also skips and tiles some of the HD channels Mine is being replaced next week yours should be replaced too. reformatting the disk is probably not going to make the fan start working. if the drive consistently overheats, its probably going to fail. What kind of clearance around the box do you have? is it enough to allow airflow? |

Still can't reset error
I did try the resets from Wikibooks.../DVR/Resets and the new download does not seem to reset the EP00 error. I have not been able to force a reformat and reload (can't get it to follow those instructions) but I may try to play with that a bit more.
The fan actually works very well and the max temperature on the hard drive was actually low, so it isn't a real fan problem. It may be a false "Fan not working" or a contineous error situtation. I have not been able to force the reset EP00 error which is documented and is supposed to respond with a .0 reply on the leds (it just doesn't seem like the right sequence and that is why I thought someeone may be able to give further instructions on how to exactly force that reset). Thanks for any further info and am willing to try any suggestions. Thanks. |

DVR Hard Drive Reset
NOTE *** This will delete all stored shows on the Hard Drive! This will also delete all of your scheduled recording settings! 1. STB should be turned on 2. Press Cable, Power off, ok/Select, to bring up the Diagnostics Page 3. With diagnostics page showing press Replay (15-sec rewind), My DVR, My DVR, My DVR, Live. 4. Your STB should now show "Clr" in the LED display. 5. Press ok/Select to proceed with the reset (and presumably Exit to cancel). 6. The STB should now reformat the HD & then peform a STB reset and begin to reload your Cable settings and Time Settings from the Head End. It will then begin to populate the Guide data over the next 2 - 24 hours. |

Can't seem to get it
I have tried this sequence a few times now without success. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what the problem is, but it just doesn't seem to go there. I have the same problem with trying to do the error reset (can't get it to do it). I do the sequence and it just doesn't respond with what it is supposed to do. I have tried with different keys as well and not gotten anywhere. I am wondering if the sequences are time dependant. Is it necessary to wait a couple of seconds or go as fast as possible, etc?
I will try this out a few more times trying to do it somewhat differently. I do appreciate the advice. Thanks. Please suggest things and I will try them. |

Still won't format
Well, even after giving me the Clr , it won't actually do the reformat. Ater pressing OK/Select it does a reset and a reboot with the 8888. Then after a few seconds it puts the dash on the display and the hard drive has some activity. Then it powers off and that's it. At this point it should be reformatting. I have left it alone for some period of time before powering it back on in each of the times that I've tried to get it to do it, but no success to this point. I guess I'm going to have to accept that this box may well be broken.
Anyone have any other thoughts? Does anyone know what the Jumpers are for? There are 2 jumpers on the board and a jumper that gets power from the power supply. Are the Jumpers On or Off supposed to do anything? I have tried to have them on and off and it doesn't seem to make any difference. Thanks. |

Ep00
I am having some problems with a DCT6412 PIII myself. It will spontaneously reset itself. I have been doing some troublehooting and thought that I might have a problem with the fan. The wiki states that EP00 is a fan error. But I found this installation guide "midcocomm.coMm/_documents/dctguides/DVR.pdf" (I had to add the M to com because I cannot post links yet) which says that EP00 is No Error. Can anyone confirm that EP00 is a fan error or not. If it is I did the HDD reset also and it did not go away. The fan appears to be working so I am a little confused. Has anyone else had the problem with a DCT6412 spontaneously resetting itself. I purchased the DVR on eBay so Shaw will not swap it because I did not purchase it from them.

In my opinion it means no error. I checked the diagnostic on my 2500 that is working fine, and that one shows a EP00 error. However, that box does not have a fan, and everything works perfectly fine on it. I seem to be pretty much in the same boat as you guys, I have a 6416 and have been fighting with it all day to no avail. I have to wait till tomorrow for the cable guys to come back out with a new box to test. Let me know if you find anything out. |

Got Mine Working
OK, I got my 6412 III working just fine now.
Here is what I did. Initially when I got the box from Texas, it came with a newer software version than my local cable company is running. Their Tech was not able to get the box working with their system. He told me I was getting errors and my cable box would have to be replaced. In all cases the only error it ever showed was EP00. I agree with the earlier comment that this may just be the default. Obviously if the fan is not working, this error should be taken seriously. I had to reload the box a few times. Some of the reloads did not finish completely. I suspect that this was probably due to having newer software that did not talk properly to my cable company. In any case I got to the point were the software on my box looked pretty good. So I called my cable company and asked them to take another try at enabling HDTV on my box. They got it going partially. I was able to get some of the channels but not all of the channels that I should. So we set up a date for a Tech to come out. He was supposed to come next Friday. I decided to add another Digital channel and since they changed that, all my channels are working properly. So I'll have to cancel the Tech coming out. In any case, my 6412 still shows EP00 and is working just fine. Thanks to everyone for helping. The new HD channels were worth all the work of getting things going. |
