Comcast to TWC (Dallas)--can't record to MAC via firewire any longer. Help!

Hello all!

I hope the answer to this isn't posted elsewhere--I did try to serch the forum extensively before this post.

Comcast just transitioned to TWC here in Dallas. I still have the same Motorola 6412 HD dual-tuner DVR that I've had for over a year with Comcast. But almost as soon as TWC "took over," I lost the ability to transfer programs from the STB to my MAC like I had been for months. I changed no settings and followed the instructions for making the transfers "to a T". I even uninstalled and re-installed all the drivers to make sure a glitch or software conflict hadn't occurred.

I'm not a newbie, but I'm not a techie either. I'm somewhere in between. So, if someone has a idea or solution I can execute, I would be eternally grateful.

Or, did TWC sneak in a firmware update somewhere that has basically rendered my set-up useless?

Thanks!

Transfering to Macs

Hi, I just got a new Motorola DVT6416 and have a Mac... would you mind telling me how you set up the transfers? You mentioned drivers... who are they from and where do you get them?

Thanks!

Sounds like the new owners are enforcing the content protection schemes that were lacking from the old owners (as part of content inventory requirements handed over to the FCC).
Since your mac is not a 5c compliant device (as is later D-VHS units), it won't be able to copy programs once content protection enforcement is turned on.
Post in your local area for others using D-VHS and have a working solution.

Almost

Thanks for the link fistsofsouth... but I already have a PVR. I'm not looking for a Mac solution to record, just to transfer stuff from the Motorola unit once it's full. Anyone know how?

I have read of the files being stored as .mti format files or some such thing and that they are mpeg-2 vids which can be viewed with VLC and converted to mpeg-4 or xvid or whatever you like. Try Google.

I believe the response you got is correct. All providers are supposed to implement 5C protection on non-locals. Many providers have been lax in implementing this, but new systems (such as FiOS) or changes in systems (like Comcast to TWC) trigger this.

Your only solution now is to get a D-VHS machine. These will do what you want.
