I think four flicks has only one decent concert and three examples of how aging rockers with questionable musical talent can phone in a performance from hasbeenville. Sorry to sound so negative but man they are sloppy musicians at best. Just intolerable for their level of success and the great catalog of songs they have put together over the decades. PQ and SQ of four flicks is exceptionally good so great production values if you can bear the performances. Still a pretty good deal as there is enough good stuff between these four flicks to make one good flick.

>> Sticky Fingers ... is neither a concert DVD or DVD-A, heck it's not even released on SACD... so what does SF have to do with the OP'ers request? It is a great Album, but completely off topic I wish they would release 'Ladies and Gentlemen - The Rolling Stones' on DVD. That was just about the best concert film they ever did IMO. I think it was only a theatrical release, not even on VHS AFAIK. Last edited by Rmassey; 12-24-06 at 12:44 PM.. |

The one I found is a 2GB .avi / DD 5.1 and 16x9 - considering it was never officially released, I don't feel I have deprived anyone of royalty revenue. Besides I doubt the Stones (or their grand children) would starve if I did. ![]() If you want one of the best recorded Stones concerts, look for Ladies and Gentlemen The Rolling Stones - it represent the peak of their career for both performance and writing. I agree that Ladies and Gentlemen is the best Stones flick. I found it from a Hong Kong seller a couple of years ago. It's been my most sought after DVD and I'm glad I found it. When I was in high school my friend worked as an usher at the local theater and when it was playing he let us in to see it every day for two weeks. It's worth the effort to seek this one out.

Any of you guys actually seen these guys LIVE? There's a reason they're called the "World's greatest rock'n'roll band". Watching on TV is not the same. I've seen this band in 4 different decades (yeah I'm an old fart) and I've been astounded by them every time. Their energy level onstage has been unmatched by anyone if ever seen.

I saw them live in 1981, 1989, 1994. I gave up on the last tour because of insane ticket prices and piss poor studio albums.
In 1989, I saw a concert at the LA coliseum that was released as The Flashpoint CD. I was in the 17th row, floor seat, when Eric Clapton joined the Stones for Little Red Rooster. Also, I bought my ticket at TicketMaster the day of the show for face value ![]() |

Look, if you know how to play a smidgeon of guitar, just watch the DVD's and tell me they are playing like a great band. They aren't. And yes rock n roll isn't held to the same standard as symphony musicians but you at least hope they are into the music enough to hit most of the right strings at the right time and paying at least a bit of attention to what song they are on. Frankly watching and listening to a concert live from umpteen miles away with sound that sucks is not the optimal format to ascertain musicianship. The DVD reveals that they rely heavily on backup singers and players to hide the fact that they are goofing up their parts regularly during the concert. Hey, I love the Stones' music but couldn't get past the terrible playing on these discs.

I have to disagree about the musicianship angle. Sure, The Stones can be sloppy in concert, but Keith is one of the most inimitable guitarists around. How many hack cover band guitarists have tried to capture those horn-section like chords?
He can play delta blues like Muddy Waters and switch to a jazzy style or flat-out boogie and is nicely complimented by Woody. Throw in one of the tightest rhythm sections around and sonic embellishments by Bobby Keys on sax (or Stu on piano back in the day) and you have a Monster Rock And Roll Band. Oh, and Mick can play a mean harmonica!

Try eating 1/3 of a 16 oz. bottle of peanuts a day. It'll make you nice and regular. And peanuts are good lipids. Also, buy omega 3 capsules and Walmart multi vitamins for men at Walmart. Together with an 81 mg asperin per day with a meal, you'll also be doing great things for your cardio system. Now go to gym 3X per week and don't smoke or drink, and you'll be flying right. Don't eat meat. Eat low-fat cottage cheese instead with pineapple on it. Diet root beer. And protect your hearing. I own pistol muffs I bought at a gun shop. Peltors are good. I use them all the time. When closing the doors on my 78 Chevy Caprice in the garage or when running the weed wacker, e.g. Use Neutrogena spf 45 non-greasy sunblock to avoid skin cancer. This little paragraph of advice is worth a forture. Fly right!

I used to be the young punk that thought the Stones were mediocre at best. Then something happened. Twenty-some years ago, while waiting in my car for a friend, "Under My Thumb" came on. I'd heard it lot's of times before but never listened. A simple groove, oooh yeah, but hypnotic all the same. My next discovery was "Gimme Shelter". I found this incredibly sophisticated and alluring. For me the rest was history. Though I have to say I'm not a big fan of The Rolling Stones, I have an immense respect for the band and their music, now. I especially dig "You Can't Always Get What You Want". FWIW I also heard Forty Flicks was worthy.

My favorite Rolling Stones video was something called Video Rewind, which was a nice collection of Stones vids which I had on Laserdisc. It is available on Ebay on DVD, though im not sure if it is a commercial product.
