xantech xtr39 vs RF repeater/learning?

so after reading remoteshoppe's FAQ on RF, and reading through the harmony 1000 thread, I think I'm going to have to start over in my search for a remote...

the situation is that right now we have a projector that drops down from the ceiling using a motor that's controlled by RF, and lights, blinds, receiver, etc controlled by IR

I had looked at the xantech XTR39, initially hoping it'd be able to do both since it's IR and RF, but if RF remotes only work with their RF bases, I'm screwed....

now, I know my garage door opener in my car has the ability to learn RF signals, are there any remotes out there that can do the same, but at the same time also connect with a base hooked up to some IR emitters?

the xantech was top on my list because of its sleekness and the ability to program custom buttons on the touch screen, both of which are required in my application. (currently, when people come over, they have to figure out which remote controls what, and often will turn off all the lights while trying to lower the blinds because they grabbed the wrong remote )

any help is greatly appreciated

I was also wondering if any remote brand makes a connector for their RF base that will emit a programmed RF signal to control the motor...

i would hope so... i mean, my car's built in garage door opener can learn from the original remote... cant' be that hard to do...

That is correct, even though the Xantech XTR39 can output both RF and IR signals, it requires the base station for reception of the RF signals.

The optional Xantech RF2IR Base Station is primarily used when you want to receive the XTR39 RF signal in another room, such as a hidden A/V cabinet. The XTR39 will send IR commands embedded in an RF signal and send it to the RF2IR.

Once the RF2IR base receives the RF signal with embedded IR commands, it will send that command out the proper IR emitter to your A/V device and/or to the RS232 output.
