Naxos Four Seasons DVD-A problem

I have a weird trouble shooting question. For some reason, this disc will only play out of two channels, the left front and rear right. All of my other DVD-A and SACD discs play fine on my Denon 1920 that I've had for about a year. All mutichannel audio on music and movies plays perfectly through my Onk SR-600. Here's the odd thing- the Naxos disc used to play perfectly and just started to have this problem randomly. The disc has no scratches or blemishes. Any ideas? Is my DVD player dying slowly?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Ben

Well, I don't have an answer for you but I just posted a somewhat similar issue with some Naxos discs in this thread.

I'm wondering if Naxos discs have some problem that develops over time? Maybe they are slowly disintegrating?

I emailed Naxos about the problem. They basically said that the problem must be with my player. If I want to return the disc, I need to inquire to the distributor where it was purchased. I bought it months ago so I doubt it's returnable.

I'm going to try the disc in my buddy's Panny S52 and see if it plays properly. We'll go from there.

I have a number of Naxos DVD-As, though not the one in question, and I've never had any trouble. Doesn't mean there isn't any, of course, given the number of discs and players in circulation, but I've encountered far more examples (personally and in reading) of player issues with specific DVD-As than with a large batch of bad discs. Testing the disc on another player is a good idea.

Ok I think I've isolated the problem (warning, this is a little long). I was having the same issue (only two random channels playing) on my recently purchased Beatles Love DVD-A. I discovered that this problem only happens when my TV is on (!). So I quickly realized it has to do with the audio settings on the DVD player which I updated when I got my Panny plasma last month and connected it via hdmi to the DVD player.

I have three audio connections out of the DVD player- hdmi to the tv, coax digital to the receiver for movie soundtracks, and 5.1 multi-ch analog to the receiver for DVD-A/SACD. When the DVD player's audio mode is set to "hdmi", DVD-A's will only play properly if the TV is off. I assume this has to do with trying to send simultaneous audio via analog 5.1 to the receiver, and hdmi to the tv. So with the audio mode on the DVD player set to "analog," DVD-A's play properly with the TV on or off. The only downside of this is that I must listen to DVD movies over the receiver. The audio out via hdmi is shut off, so you can't hear movies on the tv speakers. I don't know if there's a way around this, but I am emailing Denon to find out. If it comes to it, I suppose I can just connect cheap stereo RCA's out to the TV for movie audio. That kind of sucks though, considering hdmi is suppose to solve the multiple wire headache.
