Thanks for the update Robert.

I was starting to get worried. Things were a little too quiet around here.

Robert, any word on whether this player can do bookmarking and play resume no matter how the disc is authored?

^^ I mean a sort of global in-player bookmarking, not the software-dependent bookmarking offered on all Warner and recent Universal HD DVDs.

Robert i ordered XA-2 last week thank you

Robert i placed my order for XA-2 last week, i am excited i hope it has a sturdier build than the A-2, which is very light not very solid . I hope it is more like the XA-1 which i have and love.

My biggest hope it has a better picture due to the chip being able to do 1080p and better DAC coverter.

I am glad we finally got the release date.

Robert,

can you confirm that the XA2 uses a Silicon Optix "HQV" chip (Reon VX or even a REALTA) for deinterlacing/IVTC purposes? That would be most excellent news!

And please allow me once again to ask you for a firm confirmation that the XA2 will be firmware upgradeable for 1080p/24 output and that such a firmware upgrade is in fact coming!

Thank you - looking forward to the XA2!

I am 100% sure we will have an upgrade to selectable 1080p 24 Hz or 1080p 60 Hz. I do not have an firm commitment as to when, but I am told it will be by the end of February or sooner.

CE manufacturers are not always forthcoming on exact chip sets. I will try to get a definitive answer on the exact Silicon Optix chip set.

I got a nice update from one of Toshiba's top technical specialist who is loving the XA2. One feature he liked very much is the rich color management tools, which are easily activated with one button to very powerful, professional and easy calibration.

I hope your not saying the HD-XA2 "w/1080p" to be released in a week, will not have 1080p till Feb!
Or, what 1080p will it have upon release?
Thanks.

1080p 60 Hz on launch, 1080p 24 Hz will be upgraded with new firmware within two months.

Also, my Toshiba technical specialist friend told me a little more on the picture quality management tools.
"On screen adjustments for Tint, Color, selective color enhancement, edge enhancement, mosquito noise, block noise, and random noise."

Are there any built in test screens in the XA2 for color adjustments?

Any chance the XA2 won't have the HDMI>DVI 480p issue? I would gladly return my A2 and trade up if it's fixed on these.

Wow! I was not expecting this. This might push me into making the upgrade to a 1080p projector that accepts 24fps. I'll have to pay extra attention to CES to see what is announced with that capability.

Thanks for the news.

Robert,

thank you for the great news - I'm sold.

In short the XA2 provides all the features of the integrated SO Reon VX:
http://www.siliconoptix.com/chipProd...89667AE2A7#r_7

Or is it the REALTA? - thanks for trying to get a definitive answer on the exact chipset.

Could you please confirm with your Toshiba technical specialist that the "edge enhancement" is in fact Silicon Optix's pretty good "HQV SD/HD Detail Enhancement" algorithm? Thank you!

It would be very nice if the SO Reon chip is in the XA2 (no way it's a Realta), but I think there would have been press releases or some type of announcements prior to this just like every other player/scaler that licensed SO chips. Adding the SO chip would also be a somewhat major hardware/firmware change from the previous model. And then there's the extra cost....

This may have been asked before but can we expect the build quality to better than the A2? I love the sturdy feel and look of my Xa1 (hoping that another firmware upgrade does away with the few pause/fastforward moments I still encounter). Will the Xa2 deliver in this regard?

I had the pleasure of touching the XE1/XA2 once - rest assured build quality is very good and a definitive upgrade from the A2.
