Sa8000hd Wrong Format

I got a new 8000hd. When plugged into my tv via AV4 (hd jacks) the picture is scrambbled. The problem i believe is the unit is set in 480i. My tv only works in 480p and 1080i. I can't even see the screen to change the settings (everything is scrammbled). i remember hitting the settings button the remote twice and there is a picture format there which allows a person to change format. Anyone know how many times on the remote i have to hit it "up" in order to be a teh picture format feature. Any other suggestions. i just need to get out of 480i format but cant make out the tv/box menu. thanks

Wow, the SA8000HD was discontinued a long time ago and was replaced by the much better SA8300HD. If you can, you should take that old clunker back and see if they can give you an 8300HD instead.

In the meantime, if your 8000HD has Passport software you can manually change the output format from SD to HD by pressing simultaneously pressing the Vol- and Channel+ keys ON THE BOX itself. This toggles it between HD and SD modes. I had to be quick on the buttons in order to get it to change and for it to stick and it usually took several attempts.

If your DVR has SARA software, there may be a different method to switch it to HD mode, but the method should not be hard to find in the HDTV Recorders forum.

I was able to get it working, dont ask me how. I had 3 8300 models in the past year. When i watch sdtv in 480p all my channels above 100 had black horizontal lines through it. When u change the format t o1080i it was gone. I had this problem for 6 months with twc at my residence 5 times. It was found after the last time they were here for 5 hrs it was the box. They replaced the 3rd 8300 with at 8000 box and the problem is fixed. I cant wait till fios is running in my area. TWC sucks!!
