Poseidon in HD from Xbox Live

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I searched this forum and couldn't find a discussion of it.

I watched "Poseidon" today in HD (720p) on my Xbox 360. As far as detail, colors, black level, etc, it wasn't as good as some of the best HD-DVD material (Riddick, for example) but it was certainly better than some of the HD-DVDs I've seen (like Tomb Raider).

There, was, though, one issue with the picture quality which really bothered me. There was a lot of "stuttering" on motion--this was especially noticeable on all of the slow pans of the ship at the beginning of the film. I'm not sure what would cause this, if it's the transfer itself or something about the way that the Xbox plays back HD movies, but I found it very distracting.

Getting to see an HD movie for $6 (approximately--I forget how the Xbox Live points equate to dollars) was a lot better than spending $25 for an HD-DVD, especially for a movie that isn't out yet on HD-DVD, but if all of the Xbox Live HD content has this stuttering in it, I don't see myself watching too many more of them.

$6 is unacceptable to me for a HD movie. Here's why.

1. It's MY bandwidth they are using.
2. Neflix rents HD formats for $9.99 per month.

I'd use online downloads in an emergency but I expect HD Downloads to be a bit more commensurate in price with SD downloads which I find equally overrpriced.

I bought Poseidon and didn't notice any stuttering throughout the movie, so maybe it was just something wacky with your download.

I remember reading in the 360 HD-DVD thread people were defaming the addon for stuttering in certain titles until other's chimed in to point out that their sets didn't do it at all. You might be experiencing the effects of image processing being done by your tv on the signal it receives from the 360. Just another option

I have a Toshiba HD-A1 that I use for watching HD-DVDs on my Pioneer 1130HD. I have never seen stuttering like this on those.

I thought, at first, it might have been caused by the fact that Poseidon was in 720p. I normally watch HD-DVDs in 1080i, which lets me use Pioneer's Advanced Cinema mode. But I tried watching some HD-DVDs in 720p and still no stutter, so I really don't think that it's my TV.

^^^ Have you searched the Xbox 360 as a HD DVD player thread? Here is a post that seems applicable to your issue: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...&&#post8929894
