Question DISH Network Picture Quality

About 2 weeks ago, I got DISH Network installed into my TV. It is a SD set top box and is connected through S-Video and RCA audio cables. The picture quality has alot of static and pixelation on my TV, noticably worse than Time Warner Cable. I was wondering if that is normal or it could be a problem with the satillite alignment?

You either get satelllite 110 (East coast channels) and satellite 119 (West coast channels), or you do not. Having reception of these satellites verified from a check switch with a high signal has nothing to do with picture quality. Having a signal level from 85 to 124 has nothing to do with the picture. Having a stronger signal overcomes bad weather and recovers from it faster is all. If S-VIDEO is the best video cable you can use then the picture quality may be the cable from the dish (LNB), verify no splices save the ground block, have a hi-freq ground block, 3000MHz cable, less then 100', a hi- freq wall plate, and no RG-59 between the LNB and receiver. Use compression fittings everywhere as well. If in doubt have your installer replace everything, but the receiver. Last case would be a TV issue.

2 weeks ago I also switched from direct tv to dish network *due to number of hd channels*. In addition, I also changed my tv set from 36" sony wega (crt) to 42" panny 8 series commercial plasma unit.

My first impression was exactly like yours, but couldnt decide whether it is due to satellite provider or the tv itself.

The installer guy used his component cables and I was too busy to change it to hdmi. After i start using hdmi output from stb that did the trick

The change, indeed, was dramatic in my case. Hope it helps...

OK, it might be the type of cables I am using.
