Question about an older Sony Wega

I have a 32 inch Wega that is probably 5-6 years old. I've always known that there was an issue with them about the left side of the screen being darker than the rest of the set. However, I seem to notice it even more lately. Did they ever come up with a fix for this, or am I just stuck with it until I save up enough for a HD set?
