New to site. And new big screen LCD HD TV.
Plan on hiding components (DVD, satellite box) in built-in cabinet below bookcase - taking out center panel and replacing it with a piece of glass. Clear glass would not be my favorite option: what are my other options? Seems like dark glass is on many component cabinets. Are there other options? Thanks!

Glass can be tinted any color you like.
I would call a glass place and ask them. You do realize that the tints could block out IR, so you should also consider RF remotes with IR blasters that can be mounted inside cabinet. Another option is tinted acrylic, which I have seen in all colors of tints at ACE hardware stores. They will even cut it to your specs.

I used tempered glass custom ordered at my local glass shop. I chose tempered due to my small child and that I have two 50" racks starting at the floor. Didn't want glass shards everywhere should an accident occur. The glass provided a cleaner look, and something more resistant to scratches and fingerprints. I ordered mine with a dark grey tint and it works great - no problems with a Pronto 6000 at 9 feet.
You could ask them for a sample piece of glass and take it home - aim your remote thru it and see if it works. Mine cost me $90 each, complete with hole cut in it for a cam lock. |
