Speaker Wire Polarity Question From A Newbie
Just checking to make sure...
I bought some 16 guage Monster speaker cable that has the clear coating on it. There's writing in white on one side and none on the other. The side with the writing should be the negative, correct? |

as long as you keep the side with writing consistent with the output from the receiver/amp to that of the speaker (eg black with black, red with red). So if the you use the writing side as negative (black) just ensure that it is used that way throughout. If you are using bananna plugs it will make things much easier to identify.

As a newbie, let me also bring this up for you ... you overpaid for ordinary cable. Unless you bought it at some store's cost price (a tenth of the MSRP, I hear!) Monster is absolutely not worth MSRP. Or anything remotely close (15% or higher)
If you still can, go return it to the store and pick up some RadioShack or HomeDepot generic speaker cable.
