How many will buy a dual format player?

Since everyone's talking about the LG dual format player that will be released soon, I'm wondering how many of you would buy such a player?

Note: Added a PUBLIC poll.

I wouldn't. It is a solution to a problem I don't have, it's a Goldstar, and I have yet to see it confirmed that the player actually works.

In a heartbeat.. assuming the price is less than the combined price of the 2 single format players with comparable performance.

I would if the price was affordable. Otherwise no.

Probably not, but if the featureset turned out to be decent and the price was right I'd consider it.

I'm far more likely to buy an LG Combo drive for my HTPC than an LG set-top box, though.

It would depend on the quality and the price.

If the quality is there, I'll pay more than I would for a single-format player.

No. If I ever wanted dual format I'd buy an BD ROM drive for my HTPC once they come down to $30.

I already own hardware for both formats; so the choices don't really apply but the Warner TotalHD discs are intriguing...

Probably, provided it was reasonably priced. There are two or three Blu-ray titles I wouldn't mind picking up, so I'm not about to blow $1000 just for the privelege of seeing them, but it's a tempting proposition nonetheless.

At this point I wouldn't be interested in a dual format player. If things turn out as I suspect there will only be one format standing within a year or so.

well of course!

maybe not the very first gen player. i assume a pirce of a around $1000 which is a little high for me, but i will definitely grab one when its getting cheaper and/or other manufactures start making them.

The choice I picked would probably apply in your situation: "No, I'm happy with my Blu-ray and HD DVD players."

Defniitely NO for me. I dont want to prolong a war with 2 formats. As a BD owner I currently have access to every studio but Universal and since they on average the last 5 years or more have been the 5th or 6th highest grossing company and can deal with purchasing the few titles I want on SD. I want one format and one format only. And no I dont want a hybrid disc from Warner. Again I wouldnt pay more for half a disc Im not gonna use.

How are those Weinstein flick playing in your...no wait.

Sure I'll buy a Universal player. This war isn't going to be won by either of the platforms. Soon LGF films will come over and Disney cannot be too far behind. I'm not holding out for some halcyonic dream that consumer will wake up and decide that a couple of studios warrants their exclusive support.

Why? If players can play all formats, what difference does it make to you if there's one, or 10 formats? Practically all DVD rom drives are now dual format, dirt cheap, and people have the option which media to use that best suits their needs. How is that bad?

Its the same reason I dont want a VCR/DVD combo. I dont want to buy 2 different formats. I just want one High Def format. I dont care who wins, just give me a winner.

But why? Unlike VHS/DVD, the media pretty much LOOKS the same. It fits in the same space. If you go buy a disc, why do you care what logo is on it?

I'm actually seriously considering sending my Xbox 360 HD DVD Player back and waiting for these dual-format players.

I think I will go with a combo drive in my HTPC instead. Until the prices come down I will likely just put a BD drive and a HD DVD drive in the system (aka "2 drive combo"). When a combo drive can be had for <$300 I will yank both drives and replace them with a combo.

that means you must really hate buying Blank DVD R's. They give you the choice of - or +. , cm'on as long as we can play the damn discs without fear of obsolescence who gives a crap? Unless you really are that wrapped up in BD "winning"

I voted yes, I would purchase a universal player, but would like to add a caveat, and that would be, that it probably would not be the LG player. I would wait for a higher end player, like a Denon or Onkyo. Until then, I am set with my HD-A1 and PS3.

I agree 100% I am a Denon fanboy and would purchase dual format Denon in a heartbeat.

I voted yes. As it stands now I have been waiting for the next gen HD player to arrive and drop in price (which it has) Now I read they have a duel format player! I still will wait for the 2nd gen duel format player but this answers the bigger dilemma of what format to support.

Cheers,
Jeff

I might eventually buy a universal player (or better a drive for HTPC) ... not now. You should add a time element to this poll ... say within 3 months of the release of the first universal player.
