Thanks for the post.
We should mistrust announcements that do not have a date. Apparently, once a date is associated, the studio feels commited to the channel; without a date, they move things around arbitrarily. Last year, about 90% of the "dated" announcements actually occuredon both formats, with only about 50% of the "coming soon" announcements actually showing up. We are still all waiting for Pirates and Harry Potter, which were "coming soon" last year. |

Nice. For BR you include all of the titles that were announced PRIOR to CES (several of the titles have been discussed for quite some time now), including those without specific dates, but for HD-DVD you will only list titles whose release dates are made public *at* CES.
Not that I would ever expect you to be even-handed, given your track record.

Just to let you all know, with regard to title announcements at CES, I would look for more Blu-ray announcements from Fox (with MGM) and possibly Sony. There MAY be one or two more from Buena Vista as well.
On the HD-DVD side, Universal is definitely going to have some announcement news at the show. At least that's what they're telling me. Warner should have at least a couple of announcements for BOTH formats as well, in addition to talking about their new dual-format disc. Paramount, Lionsgate, Weinstein Co, New Line... not sure if they'll have much to say at CES, but they're wildcards. You never know. Paramount was "still evaluating" their catalog for high-def release on both formats when I last spoke with them, though they are working on lots of new releases. New Line says not to expect anything from them until mid-year, and they're still agnostic as to which format(s) they'll support. They may be waiting to see what happens with Warner's new hybrid disc. For what it's worth, I've been told that a lot of the biggest catalog announcements for both formats are just waiting on the studios working things out with directors and authoring people with regard to creating new, more advanced extras - actually creating the extras and making sure they work. But a number of BIG catalog titles are being worked on, some of which have been announced already and many which haven't yet. Best to everyone!

What's the deal with getting PIRATES (1) announced? Disney has been using this title all over their marketing materials and inserts since day 1, yet we have announcements going out to JUNE and no freakin' Pirates? I have to assume it is slated for first half of 2007 but they are waiting for some reason to announce it with bigger fanfare?
I can't understand teasing us with it and then not delivering for 8+ months... Unless they changed their plans after those advertisements went to press? |

So basically there are a ton of movies coming from BD. So strong in fact that they can announce titles days before CES and STILL announce alot more good titles at CES?
So I am supposed to belive that the only new stuff will be what warner, paramount and Universal. put out will be, it for HD DVD. And there is nothing for an HD supporter before CES?

NEWLINE TITLES FOR HD-DVD:
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery Blade Blade Runner Dark City Friday Rush Hour Se7en Spawn The Mask The Player We should be getting dates for those tomorrow. They originally mentioned The Lord of the Rings as well, but then we heard 2008 from PJ, due to likely his law suit and him not wanting to play along. Heck, Sam Raimi's The Hobbit could come out on NextGen before LotR with the fit PJ is having. |

New Line will "announce" those titles for HD DVD tomorrow, but the release dates won't be until 2nd Quarter of this year. The same titles will be available in BD, but not SPECIFICALLY announced at the show (for some reasons we've all seen here, BD Interactivity, True HD, etc). And, of course, some people on this site will try to spin this into New Line is HD DVD exclusive and Lord of the Rings is coming to HD DVD only by 4Q2007. How's that for a prediction? ![]() |
