Child proofing av equipment?

Ok, I didn't really know where to post this so I thought this might forum might help.

I just got myself a Sammy 5087 and a new surround system, the Pioneer VSX-816. I have a dvd player, a moto comcast dvr box and a Nintendo Wii. Mind you, while none of my av equipment could be considered high-end, that doesn't mean I want it messed up by grubby fingers and smacky-hands.

I have a 9-month old, which is the one I'm really more concerned about, and a very-near 4 year old. The baby is just like a baby and just want to touch and smack at and do general mischevious damage. The 4 year old boy, just likes to 'help out' with turning things on or off, up or down, you get the drift.

I have been looking for some sort of plexiglass sort of panels that could be put in front of the various sensitive areas of my av center. On the tv, there is the big ole Samsung 'target' power button and on the right side are the normal control buttons. I envision a small panel that could prevent the kids from hitting the target and a longer panel that could block the other buttons. As for the other equipment, they are housed in an open shelf system. That is, no glass doors. I envision similar items to help block certain curious fingers from pushing and whatnot. My whole idea centers on aesthetics. I don't want some crappy looking stuff to accomplish my goal. If that were the case, I'd leave it how it is now; with a coffee table in front of the tv and a box in front of the shelves!

Does anyone have a similar quandry, and if so, what have you done towards child proofing? Are there products that aren't an eye-sore on the market that are readily purchased?

This is really driving me nuts!

TIA.

Try acrylic picture frames

I had the same problem when my kids were little. I found clear acrylic tabletop frames in various sizes. I slid part under the TV and it stayed securely. It didn't interfere with the remotes either. Here is a link to a similar product, but you can find them at Walmart too.

That is close enough to what I'm talking about! Thanks.

The picture frame idea works wonders. I used to use them when I had parties and friends would come over and want to adjust my stereo by hand instead of with the remote or touchscreen causing all sorts of problems.

Lathan, no friend of mine would ever touch my stuff. You need new friends.

Early days of my system when everything was out in the open. The location and the friends have both changed.

A firm NO! and one smack on the rump did it for me. Never had an issue after that.

Ditto for me with my 3 y.o. Now, she is helping daddy keep her 1 y.o. sister away from "daddy's toys" (it's still a learning process there). No spanks for the 1 y.o., yet, but a firm no and removal to another part of the room.
