I think the tecninician called it clipping

Hey guys, I'm having an issue with my HD picture and IMO, it's the Motorola 6212 DVR. A normal HD picture comes in and plays really nice but then when changing seens or on some fast action shots, a lot of noise or small pixelation occurs. He's checked the dB of my signal and all is fine. I confirmed that it's atleast too my DVR since when I record the HD broadcast, the DVR record the clipping. I hope I'm using the right term. He mentioned that my area isn't fully upgraded with all fiber and the proper node drops, but he's confused why I'm seeing this. We also tried two different boxes as well as Component Video and HDMI. Any thought would be greatly appreciated as this really occurs with football games. I would also go as far to say it may be channel driven as well.

It's surely not "clipping". I believe it is excessive compression. It could also be the design of the STB. I have seen the same thing on a friends STB (not sure the model #), but it was very noticeable to me (not him). Could be the box, but I beleive it's their compression level. It's doubtful it's the signal level (trhough it could be if it was low or had a high error rate).

Is it on all digital channels??

If your TV has a QAM tuner connect the coax directly to the TV and watch some network HD programming and compare. Then you'll know if the STB is the problem.
