This taken from the Retail Insider an insiders magazine for Best Buy employees:

Sarcasm is for weak communicators and that's not you Brian. I happen to think that article is spot on. There are so many solid titles now popping up for Blu-ray the numbers jump instantly when they open for pre-order. I'm seeing the same happen for HD DVD as well. Consumers are enjoying the HD they're getting and coming back for more. Like popcorn in a popper the good stuff is beginning to pop with more frequency. Some day we'll be lost in the cacaphony of new movie releases. |

No problem at all. Most of HD DVD owners bought the last recent films when they were coming out.
Same situation as with the sales ranks on amazon. Batman Begins i.e. were out a long time before. And most of us bought it then. So, no news to me. Says nothing abouts sales. |

So maybe it's not BB employee's showing their fan boy side for blu-ray. They just getting mis-information in their internal literature and they're just repeating it to customers. That explains why they get so upset when they're being corrected. They're thinking "But I got a leaflet, what do you know?".

I'll stop by my local BB, where I know the managers pretty well and get a clatification on whether this is actual BB sales or whether it is as reported by the BDA during CES. This looks to me like a re cap of CES and NOT BB internal sales numbers.
Also, I'd be interested in knowing how much BD is outpacing HD DVD by. FWIW, even if BD sales are ahead for the past few weeks, many BB employees have been pushing BD over HD DVD for months! I too believe that BD sales should be ahead of HD DVD sales... Last edited by plazman; 01-19-07 at 09:09 AM.. |

If Blu-ray wasn't out-pacing HD DVD right now something would be terribly wrong. Strong sales for a relatively short period is not an indicator of anything. The software available for Blu-ray leading up to Christmas was pretty lackluster and the hardware available was quite expensive. We now have the performance-driven sales of the PS3 and a regular flow of good Blu-ray titles. HD DVD hasn't had a good week of releases since before Christmas and the numbers are just indicating that reality. Last time I checked I have well over a dozen or so Blu-ray titles on pre-order and two HD DVD titles. Expect numbers to continue in Blu-ray's favor for the time being. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why.

Vancouver BC: Best Buy: HD DVD players and movies both way outselling blue ray according to various store employees. Its sort of funny (and anoying since I buy BD and HD DVD), but they Blue Ray tittles are on a shelf which has a pillar RIGHT IN FRONT. You litterally have to look at the movies at a near 90 degree angle. London Drugs (dont laugh they are big here): Almost never sell BD, but HD DVD selling pretty good. Charlies (place you can buy and sell used media including BD and HD DVD): Owner says much more activity with HD DVD. HMV (largest loaction in the world): "We never sell the blue ones" Future Shop: "ever since the xbox Add on came out HD DVD is clearly outselling BD" I go to all the reatailers in my city who sell BD and HD DVD on a near weekly basis and always ask. Always. *** by the way on a side note I really wish OPs would have more accurate tittles to posts i.e. "Blue Ray sales out pace HDDVD 4 weeks straight." Is much different then "According to BB inside flyer HDDVD sales out pace HDDVD 4 weeks straight". This happens on both sides and gets me to read threads which basically have no or very little relavent info to the tittle. Last edited by vancouver; 01-19-07 at 11:11 AM.. |

The BB sales info on BD seems to be on par with info from DVD Empire. Info from 01/19/2007 @ 1110 hours CST.
Blu-Ray Week: 58.06% Month: 57.42% HD-DVD Week:41.94% Month: 42.58% The activity on ebay for Blu-ray and HD DVD were about equal for disc in November (less than 75 listings in each format), as of 01/19/2007 @ 1115 hours CST it is HD-DVD (24) and Blu-ray (1350) disc. As you see the trading in Blu-ray has increased many times over. Unlike many claims here, the above info is verifiable. |

For those of you who think this thread means anything, ponder this! If the BDA sudddenly decided to withhold all titles for about six weeks and the HD side suddely released a whole s-h-tload of new titles, what do you think would happen? When you have (honestly)figured out the answer to this equation then you will come to the inevitable realization that this thread is absolutely meaningless. It seems to me there is an attitude of "win at all cost" going on here. Sure we would like or chosen formats to "win" but citing the fact that BD has been outselling HD during a time when there is practically no (new) HD available is, for lack of a better word, desperate. To be totally honest, and judging by the sudden lack of support from the HD group, I wouldn't be surprised if HD never recovered when (and if) they decide to release new titles. However, until such time (when HD gets of it *ss and releases some new titles), we cannot be certain as to which format will sell more. For these reasons, this thread is pointless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
