Screw Dual Discs - you can get the SACD in Canada - BIA hands down!

Get the Stereo release of Fragile Ultradisc Gold CD by Mobile Fidelity (just out). Not surround but supposedly very very good mix.
http://www.audaud.com/article.php?ArticleID=2096

I have the DVDA - OK surround mix but very harsh high end. Probably OOP soon so if you want the surround version, pick it up anyways.

Like Paperboy2003 below, I have both and would get BIA.

It is hard to believe that BIA's is an early 48/16 original master recording.

I believe it was originally recorded in 1985 as 44.1/16 PCM.
http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/hi...es/205802.html

There has been arguments up and down on all the boards since pre-release whether or not an SACD version from original 44.1/16 could improve it. Regardless of whether it is officially hi-res or not, the surround mix is fantastic and IMHO one of the best ones out there.

Well... looks like you were right! I just got an e-mail saying they no longer have it.

So... now the choice changes

Porcupine Tree - Deadwing DVD-A or Dire Straits - BIA SACD

Or maybe Foreigner - 4?

Still BIA

Deadwing is very good (personally I like In Absentia better). Don't have 4 but was never a really big Foreigner fan.

You will find that more and more DVDA are going OOP so if you 'think' you might like one you see and it is available - buy it.

Paul,
I've read elsewhere that the surround mix sounds harsh.

What about the 2 channel section?

To be honest I almost never listen to the stereo tracks on MC discs, so cannot comment on the stereo section. Have to assume the same EQ though. I'm away from home right now or I'd pop it in the player.

I'll probably pick up the MoFi Gold CD reissue for the stereo version.

Where the hell did CD Universe find those? Fragile is really, really, hard to find. As to the OP, pick up the Foreigner as it is really rare now. the BIA will be around for awhile.

I found a copy of BIA SACD at my local Best Buy last Saturday... it was never there before.

$22. Excellent surround mix.

Check it out stormchaser, Flexx was right. I just got home. and I got order confirmation, and my order shipped today. Could it be that WEA is re-pressing?

My local BB has three copies sitting there.
O course, Warners DVD-A's are expensive up here in Canada. Fragile is actually one of the cheaper ones at $25.99.
Same store has The Nightfly and both Foreigners. Maybe I should just hold my breath and pay....

I had a copy of the DVDA of Fragile delivered yesterday from Amazon.co.uk this was the standard store.

I like what i have heard so far.

keeping on thread just i would reccommend the Dual Disc version of BIA over the SACD.

Get the MFSL CD of Fragile. Better than either of the above choices.

Ah but it's not multi-channel.
CD Universe says backordered but available in 3-10 days or something similiar.
I ended up ordering it from Germany via Amazonuk.

I haven't heard BIA on SACD, it'll be my next purchase. Yes Fragile however, blows me away when my system is working perfectly. It's usually my reference disk when I'm trying something new in my system. I'm waiting for Cowboy Junkies Whites Off Earth Now, to come out on SACD, that's my reference CD for 2 channel mode.

Are you refering to the DVD-A or Gold disc Fragile?

OK....time to add this one to the list.

This is getting expensive.
Most of the titles on my "want" list are OOP so I have to buy 'em when I see 'em.
You never know if it's your last chance.

I feel really bad for those here that feel that BIA is their best sounding SACD.

This is truely the most compressed, maximized hi-rez disc I have ever purchased. Loud, hard, and terribly fatiguing at anything about the absolute lowest volume, this is a mastering disaster.

If you have any other version of this recording, do this simple test. Put on track #3 "Walk Of Life". Listen for about 1:00 minute, until the drums and vocals start really coming in. Now, crank up your volume as loud as comfortable. Leave volume there, take out CD and put in SACD. Play the same track and wait unit you get to that same point. LOUD! This means that during the mastering stage, the dynamics were compressed, clipped and distorted. In effect, the music has been permanently altered, and ruined.

For a more thorough example, see here:
