what inputs and outputs does a digital twc box in nyc?

im currently a nyc time warner subscriber and have an analog cable box (general instruments cft 2200). i want to get a digital cable box. but what kinda inputs and outputs does it have? the analog box has coaxial input/output and composite.

well i have a standalone dvr (pioneer 640) to record my tv show and it needs composite. so my question is will the digital cable box also have composite? and what other inputs and outputs does it have, and what brand or model is it? links?

is any1 here from nyc and is using a digital cable box from twc in nyc? please let me know. thx in advance.

You should get an SA 2000 series box. It will have coax, composite and S-Video. That is it.

Digital cable is NOT HD cable. HD cable is HD cable. Do you even have an HDTV? You never mentioned that.

SA3250HD,

It will have coax, composite, s-video, component and DVI. If you want to record in HD, then you will get a SA8300HD, with everything above except DVI is updated to HDMI.

here is the specs for SA3250HD:
http://www.timewarnercable.com/nebra.../sa3250hd.html

it clearly stated the DVI port is "non functional". but i do see component for HD viewing. but i though hdmi/dvi is the best? how come they aren't offering that? y use component?

what is the max resolutions right now for HD program from TWC? 1080p/i or 720p/i?

You will have to call your local TWC to see if they have enabled/updated the 3250HD to turn on the DVI port. Many have. Not all locations carry the same stuff.

TWC passes what they get for HD. If the program is broadcast in 480i you get it in 480i, 720p, you get it in 720p, ect.. There is no 1080p broadcast available anywhere in the USA as of yet. Blu-Ray is the only thing that has true 1080p available.

The SA8300HD can be ordered with two different sized hard drives if I remember correctly. Call TWC and ask which one they have.

720p/1080i is broadcast HDTV. Your TV will be the determining factor. You either have an LCD based HDTV running at 720p, 768p or 1080p or you have a plasma running at 720p, 768p or possibly 1080p or you have a CRT based display running at 1080i.

it said the following for my tv:

Receiving HDTV: The three common methods to receive HDTV broadcasts are via satellite-TV set-top box, cable system set-top box, and over-the-air reception from a digital HDTV broadcast station.

Tuner options: An HDTV-ready satellite or cable box will act as an outboard HDTV tuner for your digital HDTV or EDTV set that lacks a built-in HD tuner.

Yes, you are correct. Your TV doesn't have a QAM or ATSC tuner. You are out of luck. You should have looked at that before you purchased the TV! Get a 3250HD or 8300HD from TWC and start enjoying some real HD on your HDTV.

but i have this dvr 640 dvr and it has a built in tv tuner...and i connect that to my tv thru component...here is the specs:

http://reviews.cnet.com/Pioneer_DVR_...5.html?tag=sub

TV tuner: qty 1
TV tuner channel coverage: VHF:2-13, UHF:14-69, Cable:1-125
TV tuner reception system: NTSC

so is it possible to buy a QAM and hook it to my 640 for hd tv station broadcast?

No. You don't have an HD DVR there. You will need to either lease an 8300HD from your cable company or buy an HD Tivo and install 2 cable cards.

That box will receive OTA digital/HD and non-encrypted digital/HD cable signals. It does not have CableCard support. If you just want to receive your local channels OTA or on cable then it will work, but besides that it won't do much else for you. Is that what you want?

ABC, FOX, My Network: 720p
CBS, NBC, CW: 1080i

Very few local stations will cross convert the network feed because of their own corporate influence.

Most network programing is in HD. News and reality shows are the main holdouts on the networks. Check out the HD programming forum and the Hot of the Press thread there for more information. There is a primetime grid for the network in the Hot of the Press that show what programs are HD and what are not.
