Having small freezing issues here too. Once during Underworld Evolution, 3 times during Monster House. Never had any freezing before the 1.5 update.

Watched Click and it froze once about 35 minutes in... resumed play after a few seconds.
Watched Kung Fu Hustle and it did not freeze up at all...

I'll try a few more discs to see what happens. All of this is on the 1.5FW.

I am going to try some bluray and DVD tonight to see if there is a freeze. I have tried everything else with no issues after firmware 1.5 update.

I did see one freeze when i bought the Decent back in december. This was the first Bd that i played besides taladega nights. It frooze for like 10 secs. Ever since then i have not seen any kind of freeze up on any dvd or bd.

By the way i use the Bd remote to control the PS3 except for playing games. I use it in the XMB too.

I also experienced the freezing issue last night, while watching Memento. Playback would freeze right in the middle of a scene for 10-20 seconds, and then resume normally. During the freeze, the PS would be totally unresponsive, although it almost seemed that pressing start on the SixAxis would make it work again, but it was probably coincidence that it would start playing again a little after I pressed the button. It was a Netflix disc, so I just assumed it was the disc. But seeing the number of posts on the playstation boards and here, I'm thinking it may be something more

Here are my settings:

1.50 firmware on PS3
Using single Sixaxis controller to control playback - No BD Remote
Autologin On
Wireless network connection - 802.11b
HDMI Video
A/V Audio

same thing here, I watched a BD movie right after upgrading to 1.5 and it froze every 30 min for 10-20 seconds. If I rewound the movie, it would play it again fine. These are brand new BDs with no scratches. This did not happen before I upgraded to 1.5.

I've froze twice since 1.5 update.

I dont know that its the update that caused it, but both were when trying to play DVD/BD

It may be a wild goose chase but I am going to disable the network from the system menu before playing any more movies. The 1.5 update had some wireless / network updates in it and I wonder if it is related. There are some reports that disabling the network may help/fix this issue but there is not enough evidence yet. It is something to try at least until it is shown not to help.

My PS3 just froze for the first time ever while watching Chicago. Froze in three different spots during the movie. Hadn't tried watching a movie since I updated to 1.5 last week. This can't just be a big coincidence.

This is interesting. I also had my first freezes (basically a hard pause for 10-20 seconds like everybody is reporting) watching T2 over the weekend. This is after upgrading to 1.5. I think it happened four times. Each time after it restarted, I rewound the movie to try it again at the place it froze, and it played just fine.

The other two movies (The Great Raid and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) played fine though. All three are from Netflix.

I had Monster House freeze on me twice after the 1.5 update, however it was a rental disc with scratches and I hadn't tried that particular disc before the udpate. I assumed it was due to the scratches, but others have mentioned this has happened on brand new discs. No freezes on other BDs new or rentals prior to the firmware update. I'll try some of my other discs that have not frozen up previously on an earlier firmware version. If it's firmware related, I hope Sony addresses it soon.

There is some speculation on the sony ps3 forum

http://boardsus.playstation.com/play...ending&page=10

that disabling the internet connection causes the problem to disappear.

So anyone experiencing the problem might want to try this and see if they have any luck. With an intermittent problem is always difficult to know for sure!

(Hope you all are contacting Sony about this!)

Unhappy

I have the same problem too after the 1.5 update.

Brand new disc froze 3 time in about an hour. Unit just seems to pause for 10-30 seconds then resumes. Had zero issues before update.

I have 60 GB - disc was Jay & Silent Bob - using Bluetooth remote (Sixaxis were offf).

Anyone know if Sony is aware of the problem? (seems widespread so hopefully).

Yeah I know I should, but it works for my purposes. I don't feel the urge yet to spend any more money on a new router. I know, they're only like $40 - I'm a tightwad, I admit it

OK. This weekend I tried watching all the movies that I watched previously with the 1.32 version. Now after upgrading to 1.5 they all freeze. What did Sony do? I hope they fix it quick. I bought this thing mostly for the BD player. If they don’t fix it quick it is going back.

Has anyone contact Sony?
What do they have to say about this?
We should all call customer care and complain. Hopefully this way they get moving on a fix for this.

According to the PS3 tech (1800-345-7669). They have never heard of such complaint. They told me that if I have problems to make sure to post it on the PS3 forum located on the PS3 website. According to him, there is another department that monitors this forum and forwards the complaints to the software programmers and technical support.

Tell the PS3 tech support about that discussion.

I got the same response after I called in today. He said that this was the first time they heard there was a problem with 1.5. So he's treating it like an isolated problem. He suggests that everyone that has experienced lockups to call in. If not, the next patch will be released in 2 months.

He made me do a soft reset on the PS3, hopefully this will fix the problem.

I just called in and got the same soft reset recommendation. I assume this is their standard script, as I got no sence this was a recommendation tied to this particular problem. I probed on whether they were aware of or tracking the problem, but I got nothing beyond generics.

Anyway, I can only suggest/hope that if everyone calls in the problem we'll see some action sooner.

I've barely used my PS3 as a BD player, but over the weekend I watched Saw III and it locked up once for about 10-15 seconds and then continued playing as normal.

Has anybody try downloading the 1.5 again to see if it was a file that corrupted during download?
This was a suggestion someone in the official PS3 forum got from Sony after e-mailing them about this issue.

Is it possible to download the same firmware you are already running?

No, not from the console. It says it's already on the newest version.

Also the soft reboot did not work, it hung again last night. I'm not going to do a hard reset and lose all my game saves / downloaded content. Guess we have to wait until the next patch.

Thanks for the info.
I guess all we have left is for everyone to keep calling customer care (1-800-345-7669) and let them know of the problem until they get tired of the phone calls and do something about it.
