PLEASE HELP! Terrible pic quality w/ cablevision...

Hello All. My brother recently purchased the Sharp Aquos 52" LCD 1080p Television. It seems to be top of the line. He has io digital cable-Cablevision in New York. His jacks are composite cable out of the High Def cable box(pushing out 1080i), and into the tv. The picture quality sucks!!! Even the High Def channels are not that great. We tried the HDMI cables to, and same problem. We know its not the tv, we tried his new tv, and another high def lcd tv. All the same problem. Please, How can he get a quality picture on his tv both regular channels and high def? Could it be the cable coming of the jack in the wall and going to the cable box? Could it be his area he lives in? Could it be that calevision just sucks? Please if anyone can help! Also can you let me know what service is the best for picture quality.
Thanks All!!!
Don

HDMi is digital only. So it wont be able to get analog channels. Composite is barely one notch up from the standard F-Coax.

Guess you dont have a set of Component Cables.. that's probably what you want to use. In the Y Pb Pr jacks. I assume your TV and the HD box both have those.

S-video is better than that composite cable youre using now... if you have one on something maybe you can borrow it until you can get hold of some composite cables.

Use component or HDMI cables. Composite will only pass an ANALOG signal. Make sure you are tuning to a 24 hour HD channel to see true HD. You want to be on Discovery HD, HDNET or INHD.

I apologize, I meant to type component cables, not composite. We are using component cables for HD and the picture is bad! HD channels are clear but not the clearest that the should be. Would having a bigger screen decrease picture quality?

Which HD channels are you viewing? Local "HD", which is only HD during primetime or 24hour HD real HD?
Did you adjust your picture settings on the TV? You need to calibrate your picture from factory set "VIVID" to real-life. TV's generally look far too bright and white washed out of the box.

We adjusted the tv to every option, and still the same. I just think Cablevision has terrible service. Does anyone know of any reliable companies that produce good quality service? I heard direct tv is clear, though when the weather is bad the channels cut off and on. Is this true? Hows Verizon or Comcast? Are they NY based companies? Thanks all!!!!
