PS3 having trouble with Blu-ray movies after 1.5 update
Just finished watching Chicago on my previously flawless PS3, which froze three times during the movie for about 15 seconds each time, then continued playing normally. The problem could not be duplicated, so it is definitely not a problem with the disc itself.
Hadn't had a single playback glitch until now. I upgraded to 1.5 last week and hadn't watched a movie since then. Based on these other two threads posted below and my own experiences, I would recommend PS3 owners who haven't yet updated hold off until Sony addresses/fixes the problem. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=796054 http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...3&page=1&pp=30 |

It's been happening to me too. Not one single problem until after this 1.5 firmware. All The Kings Men paused momentarily as did Alien vs Predator & Chicago. I'm not too worried as it seems like an easy fix. Hopefully Sony is aware of the problem.

well after reading alot of threads on various boards, it is clear that
1- this a problem is due to the 1.5 patch 2-this had nothing to do with your specific PS3 so an exchange is not the solution here 3-is completly random and had nothing to do with some specific blu-ray movies. so exchanging the movie won't cure it the internet connectivity seem like the most logic cause of this. so until a patch come, the solution might be to simply disable internet connectivity in the configuration menu when you watch a movie. the solution is still very fresh on the boards but I have yet to read anyone saying that they've disable it and still got the problem so it is a good sign. Be carful if you read those board as a few people report they got the problem when in fact it is some other freeze up or crash. this bug is very specific, it look like you pause your PS3 for 5 to 15 seconds. then the movie restart like nothing happen So far I've had the freeze bug at least once on every Blu-ray I've watch since 1.5 patch(and I got pretty bad internet connectivity so it seem like a pretty good cause) so I will try to watch 2 movies tonight(after disabling my network) and see if I am ok.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I just bought a 20 gb PS3 on Amazon and I plan on using it just for Blu-Ray movies for now (Still have Call of Duty 3 and Gears of War yet to play on my 360), should I even connect it to get any updates of firmware? Is the basic out of the box firmware going to cause problems for Blu-Ray movies?
Thanks. |

Some people (from reading on this forum) had problems fixed with each firmware upgrade. If you experience zero problems with your hookup then don't connect and upgrade. I've upgraded to 1.5 and have experienced the freeze up like others. I have disabled the internet connection and zero freeze after watching one movie but I won't be assured that it is fixed til I watch 10 movies in a row.
I'm confident that a future firmware upgrade will fix this for everyone. |

I'm confident it will get resolved soon. They should however allow you to roll back and hold. |

well, I've just watch Kingdom of heaven last night after disabling the internet. 3 hours movie, no freeze up! it's only 1 movie so it sure dosen't prove it won't happen again, but at least it is worth a try.

I udated FW to v.1.5 as soon as it came out, watched a few movies since tehn, did not have any freeze issues. From reading the posts, I am inclined to think that particular Network setup details are causing the freezes. In my case I am using WPA (TKIP) wifi connection to a D-Link DI-624 router. I do not have any particular issues with movie playback itself. However, I did notice recently that the router started dropping the connection once in a rare while. I know that seeing those pop-up little dialogues telling me Signed out or Signed In. However, in my case these things do not case any playback issues. (knocking on wood ...)
