Ebay item 120080654465, a Duke Ellington SACD went for $107.17!

yep, certain SACD/DVD-As are getting really hard to find and prices are climbing on ebay. I have seen over $50 lately for both Yes, Fragile DVD-A and ELP Brain Salad Surgery DVD-A.

I got lucky and picked up Queen The Game DVD-A for $10 there recently so one can still fill the holes in one's collection with some patience.

I've been wanting to get Night at the Opera DVDA, but the cheapest I've seen it is $30. I asked DTS if they are re-releasing it on DVDA, but their rights expired a couple years ago and Disney (the new owner) doesn't seem to have any interest in re-releasing it.

There's a story with that one. First off, it's a Mobile Fidelity, so it's collectable. Secondly, it was released at the same time that MFSL went bankrupt, and all of their stock was destroyed or sold to liquidators. There were very few of that title released.

However, "regular" SACDs and DVD-A's will soon be selling like quad reels on eBay today. As mentioned above, there are some WB DVD-A's that are extremely difficult to find now, like "Workingmans Dead", "Brain Salad Surgery", and the Eric Johnson Capitol release "Ah Via Musicom", which was recalled a few years ago and never re-released as promised.

I had read that particular SACD was rare and valuable and there are others. If the rare titles aren't re-released, the value will likely go up higher. If as we all should hope, we see all of them released on SACD or DVD-A or Blu-ray or HD DVD, the value will go down. I don't expect to make money on any of my 300+ high resolution discs, but if I see any one of them are worth $100, I am selling. Many MFSL CD's are worth a lot now but I don't understand why and won't pay anywhere near the value and don't own any of them. I agree the company did a good job with their releases most of the time. I have never heard this Duke Ellington recording in any format.

Eric Johnson's "Ah Via Musicom" DVD-A is especially hard to find, although this is one I am willing to pay big $$$ for.

There's a member over at stevehoffman.tv with a single-layer stereo SACD of Aerosmith's "Rocks"....bet he's just waiting for the right offer to come in.

It's very hard to get Deep Purple "Machine Head" on DVD-A. Almost as hard getting it on SACD. I used to have the DVD-A until it was nicked by a mental ex-girlfriend who probably doesn't even know what it is. That's really double the crime. But we must soldier on,I'm ok,I was able to find the SACD version on Ebay. So why was Eric Johnson recalled. I'm lucky that she missed that one. B!&ch !

Shane.

The multi-channel remix was done without Eric Johnson's approval. By the time EJ know about it, the DVD-A had hit the market. The DVD-A was recalled and EJ promised a proper MC remix.....and of course, it has yet to materialize.

Going price lately for ELP brain surgery.

Edit: for prosperity when the ebay link goes bad, it was about $79.

It's not that bad - you can pre-order "the first batch" of the 5 SACDs + 1 bonus SACD and 6 DVDs (Boxed set, 12 disks in total), for around $120.00 total (including shipment from Japan), in the Japanese HMV store. And that's exactly what I and few other Genesis fans did.

I did a double take when I first read your post: $120,000 total. Once you replace the comma with a period it's a little more reasonable.

I think I saw it at HMV (japan website that delivers to US and takes VISA) for a cheap price.

I am looking for Foo Fighters-One By One (DVD-Audio).

Check back to Sound City Internet - soundcitybeaches - store on fleaBay now and again. Company out of Toronto Canada. They have a good selection running through their shop (generally retail prices and not so great shipping costs, but they get the stock). I have bought quite a few OOP DVDA from them in the last year, including Grateful Dead Workingmans Blues when 4 US suppliers could not get it. Good service.

Well Chris, looks like your setting a record for DVD-A.
Glad I bought Brain Salad Surgery almost 4 years ago at Circuit City.
Good luck!

Smile See my blurb re AIX Records

If anything will appreciate I think it will be DVD-As by AIX Records. www.aixrecords.com They are utterly fantastic. I got my first two last Monday and ordered five more on Friday. I have now loaned those two out to neighbors and called three GM dealers since GM is offering DVD-A on the Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia, several Cadillacs and will offer it on the gorgeous new Buick Enclave crossover SUV. GM needs a demo disc made by Aix Records to show off the system. They are the highest fidelity I have ever heard short of live. A huge break-through!

You might be right, the AIX releases are just the type to go high. Limited quantity release, very high quality and very limited demand. Right now, I don't think many of the releases are OOP so interested buyers need only go to the AIX site and buy it. In the case of AIX, these are not mainstream artists and it may take some time.

The AIX releases will become scarce only if AIX stops making them, and why would they? They are great, people want them, and the sell direct. There would be no reason for them to stop making them unless no one wanted them.

Now the Acura AIX demo disc, that's a different story!

The Foo Fighters title is called "One By One"...

"In Your Honor" Dual Disc can be found at SHOP.COM which they get through CD WOW. I couldn't find it directly on CDWOW's website...

AIX Records Artists...

Thanks for the kind words about AIX Records titles...it'sbeen a labor of love and a solid commitment to advancing the art and science of recording since the beginning.

As for the artists on the label, the A&R process is a little mystical, I admit. I love all kinds of music and have some connections in the business. There are new recordings now of Ernest Ranglin with Robby Kreiger, Monty Alexander, Adrian Young, Elliot Easton and more. Hanna-McEuen was just completed and they had multiple charting tunes on the country charts last year.

We've got Raul Pineda, Wallace Roney, John Gorka and Albert Lee coming this summer. Raul was in over the weekend and couldn't believe the sound quality...he was not hip to HD Surround Music.

Got to run...more soon.

I just checked my RL demo disc. I thought I remembered it being pretty bad, in fact I don't think I ever played it. I was shocked to think I would have reacted that way to an AIX disc.

So, I dug it out. It's not an AIX disc, it's a crappy BOSE demo. The AIX disc must be from the 06/07 RL. Mine is an '05.

Crap!

Sure, studio musicians that don't have any recognizable names for their own releases. I wasn't disputing their talent. My comment stands, these are not mainstream artists, they are unknown to the general public.

The "Gift of Music" DVD-Audio sampler was bundled with the 2006 Acura RL cars. It's fairly hard to come by...in fact I have only a couple. I stopped by my Acura dealership the other day and even the sales guy didn't have one. They only give it to the purchaser because as demos they kept disappearing.

If anyone is interested in which tracks from our catalog are on the sampler...I'll pass that information along.
