Now that some of the new Samsung models are starting to hit stores, it seemed like a good time to start a new thread so that owner's of these new models could compare notes.

I ordered a LN-T4661F today from Vanns to replace a cloudy Sony 46V25L1. It should arrive next week.

I am still trying to figure out the "real" differences between the 61F and 65F models. Other than the design and 10000:1 vs. 15000:1 contrast ratios, does anyone else know of any differences?

Myself as well, since I am really trying to decide btw the 4665F and the Aquos 4692U...and I probably won't be able to sample either one without ordering.

Supposedly the 65F has a "clearer screen" and superior audio. The Samsung website calls the 61F "good" and 65F "better". I am very curious to read forum reviews.

I called Samsung canada
they said mid to end of april
and bestbuy most likely will be carrying them they carry most samsung models
if not bestbuy\future (same thing)

If the clearer has anything to do with Mura, great. Probably just a reference to the improved CR though. If Samsung measures CR, they would have to get these high numbers by measuring an area of the screen that does not have clouding or flashlighting. So either they aim their spot meter away from the defects, or the defects are reduced.

There was a "review" of the 65F series in another thread here that said the "Super-Clear" screen was achieved by making it glossy. Probably similar to what Apple did with their Macbook displays. The shiny screens do enhance the picture a great deal (deeper colors) but at the expense of a nasty glare unless you are sitting right in front of the screen.

If this is how Samsung is achieving the 15000:1 contrast ratio, I am glad I went with the 61F series. I will have enough glare from the piano black finish. I don't need any additional glare from the screen.

I also question how Samsung labels the audio of the 65F series as superior. Hey, 10 watts is 10 watts. You can put the speakers wherever you want to, they are still going to sound small.

My 4661F will be here next week and I will take pictures, etc and post them in this forum. Hopefully the clouds have been worked out of this generation of panels.

Does anyone know where the AV hookups are located on the back of these? In the middle? To the side? I haven't been able to find a picture of the back of these sets.

On Vanns site it says the 4661F(X?) has 10-bit color processing and on Samsung's site it says the model has 16-bit. Which is correct, any ideas? Thanks.

You should go by the manufacturer of the panel since vendors do not set spec's for anything. Sometimes Manufacturers make mistakes with their early postings of new panels but a vendor is regurgitating what they've been provided by their Rep.

I saw the new 5265F at Brandsmart (Atlanta) today. It's next to the new Samsung 5054 plasma. The picture looks like a plasma tv with excellent contrast ratio and a glaring screen. It's also smoother (1080p) and brighter than the 5054.

I'm beginning to think that the 65F/61F line is Samsung's attempt to throw a bone (stop gag?) to people willing and ready to buy an LCD right now that can't wait until (or afford) the LED 81 models come out later this year. These people have cash in hand wanting to buy now but don't want to settle for the current choices ("cloudy" Sony's, "banded" Sharps, Samsung's own overscanning models, etc.); they also don't want to be shortchanged in stuff like contrast ratio, 1:1 1080p, etc. Samsung may have rushed the 65/61F LCD's to coincide with this narrow window between the release of the 81 LED sets and the discounting of the 4X95/4X96 line, hence such shortcuts as the glass with more glare to increase the color/contrast ratio, new placement of the speakers, the curved shape of the body, etc. They also moved 4X95/4x96 service menu options to tweak the picture from hidden inside the set to a more user-friendly configuration; they've also added backlight control and a slightly more user-friendly PIP. Those features don't cost a lot to implement on a new model (R&D is already done and paid for from the 4X95/4X96 line) and save on costs.

If you think about it Samsung is covering all the bases. Budget-minded buyers will flock to the discounted 4X95/4X96 models (which will help Samsung and its retail partners move excess inventory). The knowledgeable-but-impatient buyers will get this new 61/65F sets. And those that must have the very best (and will wait/pay as long as it takes to get it) will flock to the 81 LED models later this year. Considering the falling prices and profit margins for CE Samsung seems to be trying to prop its bottom value with volume across all price ranges. Is it any wonder they're one of the Top 3 flat panel companies in the world?

dad - you make a lot of good points, I would just state that the increase in CR is a major step up, probably not easy to do, you can't do it with a new coating. A new coating will do nothing for CR, it just moves the backlight throughput and changes the net CR (with room ambient factored in). Gloss does change perceptions, but they state that their CR has improved. CR is measured in a dark room, so glare is not a factor there. Anyway, the pics look promising.

On the german Cebit the Samsung employees said that the European M8 Series (Which is pretty identical with the us 61/65) will support 24p!

So yeah. I guess they do 24p

Hmm, from those pics, it appears that there is no clouding/banding. I'm gonna have to keep the LN-T4061F in the running for a second home office HDTV for my videogame consoles. I'm also considering the sharp 37 inch 1080p gaming model that just released and the sony 40V2500 if the prices come down...

After reading intial reviews and speculation of the 61/65f series, I am impressed, but not enough to warrent me buying this tv now vs waiting another 6 months for the 71/81 series.

And whats up with Canada, these LNTs are not even in the computer systems yet at retail stores.

At one point, I read that the 66 series was identical to the 65 series except the speakers were located on the bottom of the TV and not the sides.

They will arrive between mid and end of april- I’m guessing for the smaller end stores will get them earlier than big chain stores like best buy
They usually post em on the Canadian website a few weeks before receiving them so keep checking

IMHO the 71d wont offer a great advantage over the 65 however the 81series is a whole new level of lcds and you can expect it to be priced that way
That’s Why I’m going to pull the trigger asap

I would also like to know if the 66 has the glossy panel? it didnt mention it on the website

i was told by a samsung rep that the new 65F has better color and better blacks because a polarizing filter has been removed,hence more reflection.

The news today is that SAMSUNG will be releasing ALL NEW MODELS will be released april 1 2007 .Samsung rep has said this is a recent decision from head office.They decided that releasing the new models in spurts here and there was not a good business move.In order to compete with sharp and take total control of the LCD industry ,this is there way to help achieve that goal.Early release ,beats the copetition to the punch...and your wallet.

I have been waiting for quite awhile to get a gaming HDTV and this years Samsung LCD's might be the ones I have been waiting for. I have to wait till mid May or early June to get one and the 81 series of Samsungs with LED back lighting will also be out at that time. So I have a bit of a tough choice ahead of me, get the 61 or 81. Still not sure about the size I will get but odds are that I will get a 40 inch due to the fact that I will sit between 6 and 8 feet from it. My biggest concern is that the LED backlight in the 81 series is virtually untested, and could be quite troublesome. Since the 61 series is basically an upgrade to the 95 series that came out last year, they should have most of the bugs worked out. And those pictures posted earlier look very nice, but I would like to see some in a well lit enviroment as that is what most of my viewing will be in. Unless the 81 series absolutely blows this away I will probably get the LN-T4061F.
