The Chinese manufacturer of the brands Alco (Venturer) announced at CES that it would be supporting HD DVD , presumably with the Microsoft/Broadcom SoC solution.
A picture of the first mythical Chinese player is on this HD DVD PRG report page from CeBit. http://www.hddvdprg.com/eng/event/31cebit.html http://www.twice.com/article/CA6405555.html?nid=2402 anybody know anything else? Last edited by Kosty; 03-19-07 at 04:49 AM.. |

While I won't be buying one of these (Chinese players), it's certainly great news for HD DVD. $199 is when many J6Ps I know caved in for dvd and hopefully it'll be a similar story for HD. I don't think Onkyo or Meridian will make much of an impact at all selling $999 to $1999 players.

So like Toshiba is a Japanese company with players manufactured in mainland China, Venturer is a Canadian company company with players manufactured in China. If Toshiba and Sony are Japanese, then Venturer is just as much Canadian.
So maybe low cost Canadian HD DVD players will be coming to HD DVD's rescue? |

Sorry to say but I think Blu-Ray is coming to an end very soon. Especially when more and more of these come out. More companies. People like us will care about DD or TrueHD or what not but J6P will not care. If the PQ is very good then that's all that they'll care about. Seriously, mroe people look atp ictures than to care about sond if you ask me.

Encoding can be to whatever format. In this case it's apparently only Dolby Digital in order to keep costs down. It's a bit too early to have players with all the bells and whistles at bargain-bin prices. |

The knockout punch for Sony and pals(gang of 9.)Courtesy of Canadians first!
"Stick a fork in them, they are done!" As we expected. Timeline to failure of Boozeray(1-2 yrs.) First Sony denies, blusters and then declares they will support the B-ray forever. Then they quietly let it slip away. Thats exactly how Betamax ended ,with a mercy killing in Canada and everywhere.Guess who never learns, thats the definition-" of insanity."
